Dustin's POV
I put my napkin down on my plate, leaning hard against the booth.
"Wooh I'm stuffed," I let a sigh out slowly.
Max nodded towards me, "Yea me too me man."
Will let out a huge belch, making El jump slightly, "What was that?"
Mike smiled, "It's called burping. You just push air from your stomach."
El frowned slightly, closing her eyes like she was focusing. Suddenly she burped so loudly that Lucas choked on his tea, Max hitting his back slightly.
Lauren couldn't contain her laughter. She held onto the edge of the table as she giggled.
Mike snorted, "Guys we should go before we cause more of a scene," he said, pointing at an older couple giving us weird stares from across the room.
"Yea I agree."
We paid the bill and filed out in a less than quiet fashion, the bell dinging like crazy on the way out the door.
Mike's POV
As we walked away from the diner, I stayed in step with El. Her hand grazed mine as we moved down the sidewalk in sync.
I could feel her gaze on me as I let the sun hit my face.
"Mike," she whispered softly, linking fingers with me.
"Mhm?"
"We're going to...the pool now?"
I glanced over to the short haired girl, a gentle look in my eyes, "Yea," I paused, grabbing her arms, "El, you don't have to swim if you don't want to-"
She let out a sweet giggle, "Mike. I'm fine. I'm actually excited."
I smiled widely, her little face making my heart thump in my chest.
Her cheeks turned a rosy pink and she hit his chest, "Stop looking at me like that! I'm never gonna get this off of my face," El pointed to her bright red skin and grabbed his hand, "Come on Mike, we need to catch up with them."
And with that she pulled me forward towards the group of kids in front of them.
Max's POV
"GUYS. WE'RE HERE!" Dustin screeched, his voice cracking in between almost every letter.
He ran ahead, his legs carrying him faster than I thought possible.
"Dustin! Wait for me!" Will ran after him, grabbing Lauren's hand, his bowl cut bobbing as they sprinted into the fenced in pool.
Laughing next to me is Lucas, his nose scrunched up in a wide beam, "I should go make sure they don't get us kicked out by not paying or something."
I nodded and watched as he left to parent the two boys.
Standing alone now, I glanced behind me to see Eleven and Mike hand in hand.
My stomach twisted, making me feel sick. I didn't want to be here without Lucas. He made me feel strong. Maybe if he was here, I wouldn't feel so alone.
I started to walk faster so I didn't have to awkwardly talk to Mike and El.
Practically jogging, I pushed the gate open with both hands, the air in my lungs letting out in one large sigh.
Lucas stood at the entrance to the booth where we payed for swim time, obviously waiting for me .
I smirked at him, "Awe you're waiting for me. How cute."
He tilted his head, "Nah."
"Keep telling yourself that, Stalker."
He rolled his eyes, "Come on Tubular Girl," he said as he lead me into the pool area.
El's POV
I stood staring at the sign that hung right above the huge gate leading into the pool.
HAWKINS POOL
Taking a deep breath, I looked down at my feet nervously.
"El."
Mike's warm hand wrapped around face as he turned towards me.
I let my face lean against his palm, the nerves started to blossom in my belly again.
"I'll be with you the whole time."
I let out a little breath, "Promise?"
A smile spread across his adorable face, "Promise."
Mike took my hand in his and we strolled into the large open sitting area, where the rest of the party was already getting their clothes off to swim.
I went to sit next to Lauren, Mike taking a spot to my left.
He stopped next to me, grabbing the ends of his shirt in both hands. Slipping the shirt over his head, he revealed his bare chest.
My entire face seemed to blush as I stared at his stomach, moving my eyes up and down his abdomen.
He tilted his head at me, smirking slightly, "Deja vu, huh?"
Deja vu. A feeling of having already experienced a situation before.
"Where's your shirt?" I moved closer to him curiously.
He looked down at his pale chest and stomach, "Oh. I didn't find my shirt yet."
I stared at Mike's chest and then I felt my eyes drift to his abdomen. I frowned.
He looked down again, "What is it?"
"You have lines," I exclaimed poking his very slight abs. Mike chuckled slightly.
"Oh. That's just...uh...nothing," The dark haired boy said, getting slightly self conscious as I inspected his bare torso.
"I've never seen this before," I whispered, looking back up at him.
"Are you uncomfortable? I can put my other shirt back on if you want me to," he said, worrying that I was grossed out about him being shirtless.
I shook my head, "No, no. I'm not uncomfortable. I'm just fascinated," I looked Mike up and down, lifting his arms and studying his shoulders.
I smiled slightly, taking in the sight in front of me. I liked when he didn't have a shirt on.
He was smiling goofily at me, his eyes gleaming with remembrance.
"That night was fun."
Mike nodded, "I can't believe Hopper let me stay over."
I shook my head, snorting, "Me either, honestly."
A large splash erupted to my right, our gazes moving to the sound. Dustin has just jumped into the pool, spraying water on Max who shrieked.
"Wanna go in?" The brown haired boy asked me, his sweet expression making me melt.
I nodded, turning back towards the chair. I bent over sliding my shorts down and pulling my shirt over my head, hair getting caught in the fabric.
I faced Mike again, his face flushed, his mouth slightly open.
I let out a chuckle, going back to the night we danced in the rain, "Are you uncomfortable? I can put my shirt back on if you want me to."
His mouth closes and a grin appears on his lips, "Did you just-"
"Yes Michael, yes I did."
