It happens to everyone. Some memories grow Ugly, and some become more Beautiful. If we could recover our true memories, the world would seem completely different.
This is why I love kingdom hearts so much, it touches your deepest emotions and changes you a lot, even for a game it's unnatural. Sorry, kinda went on a rant hah... But damn, I love it, it makes you laugh, cry and messes with your emotions more then anything.
