"Oh my gosh Mummy! Look outside!" My son Ethan shouted, as he ripped open our curtains, the morning light pooring in.
"What is it baby?" I asked, as I stroked Jackson's face as he fed, his bog brown eyes gazing into my own.
"It's snowed! Santa finally brought my wish 3 months later!" He cheered, pressing his nose against our balcony door.
"Wow Baby! I wonder if schools open." I said to myself, reaching for my phone, hoping to see a text message that said he was off, so I didn't have to do the school run. Sure enough there was a message that read Good morning due to the snow fall overnight we have decided to close the school for today in the best interest of our students and teachers. Sorry for any inconvenience and thank you for your cooperation.
"Is it open Mummy?" He asked, climbing into bed next to me, trying to see the phone.
"No baby! But that means you'll have to come with me to work because Dada's working too." I told him, remembering that I had studio today.
"Otay, will lanty Pez and Oscar be there?" He asked, stroking Jackson's head.
"I think definitely auntie Perrie but I'm not sure about Osc his school might be open still." I told him, brushing back some of his hair.
"Otay, where Daddy?" He said, tilting his head with the question.
"Hmm, I'm not sure babs, is he downstairs?" I suggested, remembering him handing me Jackson earlier so I could feed him.
"I'll go and check," he said and as quick as he arrived he was gone, leaving me and Jackson chuckling.
"What is he like eh Jax, crazy boy!" I cooed, as he unlatched himself.
Just as I said that my phone began ringing, the screen lighting up with Jade's name. I answered it and sat Jackson up on my lap.
Hey Jade
Hi Leigh, how are you?
I'm good just fed babs, you got snow with you, Ethan is so excited.
Yeah which is why I'm ringing, Jed reckons were not going to be able to get into London to the studio so I was wondering if you think we should just cancel it, our road's totally blocked.
It's probably wise Jade, I'm not sure if ours is but you and Pez live close so she's probably stuck so in reality Jes is the only one who can probably get in and she won't want to travel alone with the baby.
Okie dokie, I'll let Pezza know if you get Jes for us
Yep, enjoy your day off love
You too, see you soon
Bye"Looks like it's you me and Eeth today then Jax," I said, getting out of bed, resting the giggley baby on my hip, once I had texted Jesy.
Walking down the stairs I saw my little family laughing, as Andre cooked Ethan's egg.
"Hi babe" I said kissing his lips, once I had placed Jackson in his bumbo, "I just spoke to Jade and were not going to risk getting to the studio so I'm off today." I said, wrapping my arms around him.
"Okay, probably best, anyway you can go out with Ethan, he's practically bouncing off the wall ready for a snowball fight." He chuckled, playing Ethan's food up for me to chop.
"You still in babe?" I asked him, before shouting for Ethan.
"As far as I'm aware, yes although I'm not sure I'll make it much past the driveway because the fritter didn't come down last night so we'll have to see." He said, pouring some juice into a cup for Ethan who was munching away.
"Okay we'll just have to see eh?" I suggested, as I made some wheetabix for Jackson and myself.
"Yep, I'm gonna go and get ready, see you babe" He said, kissi"ng my cheek.
"love you" I called after him, as I took the weetabix out of the microwave and grabbed a baby spoon to feed my youngest.
"can I feed him mummy?" Ethan asked, trying to take the now food loaded spoon off me.
"If you want Eeth, Mummy's not in work today so how would you like to go outside and play in the snow once Jackson's been fed?" I asked him, watching as he guided the spoon to Jackson's mouth.
"Yeah! Can we make a snow man Mumma?" I said excited, as I swooned my own breakfast into my mouth.
I nodded and chuckled as he did a little happy dance in his seat.
In no time we were all full and Andre had left to shovel the drive. I was currently zipping Jackson into his snow suit, watching Ethan struggle with his paw patrol wellies. "Is this foot left or right mummy? And what shoe goes with it?" He asked me holding up his right foot.
"Right, baby and the one that looks like it belongs on that foot." I instructed, sitting Jackson up, so we could watch to see if Ethan could do it. With a smile on my face I watched him select the right shoe and put it on his foot, his tongue sticking out the entire time, making me chuckle.
"I done mummy!" He cheered, running over to me with the correct wellies on the correct foot.
"Well done you! Now your coat, can you do the zip?" I quizzed, handing him the warm blue coat. He nodded and I watched, impressed, as he put the coat on and zipped it all the way up. I pulled my coat on and unlocked the back door, letting Ethan get his first proper experience of snow, once I had put his gloves and hat on.
"Its so cool!" He shouted, picking some of the white powdery snow off the floor. I smiled and strapped Jackson into the carrier as he was too little, making sure his hood was pulled up over the monster hat Perrie had given me for him.
Grabbing my phone, I too stepped out into the winter wonderland, feeling the snow groan under my feet. By now Ethan was already compacting the snow into a ball. I took a couple of photos before going over to help him roll the ball in snow.
As we were getting ready to lift the middle part of the snowman onto the base, I felt a pair of freezing hands rest on the back of my neck making me jump a mile. "Andre!" I shouted at him, shoving him lightly.
"Roads blocked so it looks like you're stuck with me." He told me, dipping down to kiss my freezing lips after.
"Oka..." I began before being interrupted.
"No Mummy, no kissing until Dave's been built!" Ethan said, pushing in between me and Andre.
"Maybe daddy can help us now Eeth," I suggested, to which Ethan nodded and began bossing us about.
By lunch both of the boys were fast asleep, having worn themselves out in the snow. Andre and I were now cuddling on the sofa under a fluffy blanket, a hot chocolate in our hands, as shaw shank redemption played on the oversized t.v. that Andre had insisted on buying.
"I love you, you know? Like really really love you" I told him, looking up at his face.
"I love you too, like a tonne, I don't know what I'd have done if I hadn't met you." He said, kissing my head.
In that moment I felt truly contented as the snow fell down outside, like nothing in the world could ever be wrong. Like nothing could ever hurt my little family. And nothing ever did.
