Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Perrie Edwards had always been close, it was evident in everything from school trips to group projects and everything in between. It was obvious to everyone that they'd end up together, their friends had bet on it and their parents had endless conversations about their inevitable union. Obvious to everyone, that is except them. At 17, a twist of a bottle sent their lips crashing together and not long later everyone's predictions became true. At 18 a twist of a key in the door signified a new chapter and all in their life was amazing.

8 years later saw the couple in the beginning of a new chapter of their life. They were on a plane on their way to Ukraine to get their baby boy who they had been waiting for for nearly two years. Nerves hung over their heads as Leigh slept in her wife's arms, fingers intertwined, hearts beating at the same pace. As Perrie watched her wife sleep she couldn't help but let her mind wander to their sweet Baba who was most likely asleep in his tiny cot in the orphanage. They had only seen him in pictures but he was already their son. He had fairly tanned skin that was free of imperfections and the first clue that he was Eastern European. His eyes were much like her's, bright blue and big. Leigh had described them as oceanic, like a section of the Mariana Trench had been captured in his irises. The last striking thing about him was his blonde curls, that Perrie was sure when it was allowed to be grown out would be a blonde version of her wife's. All in all he was the cutest kid Perrie and Leigh-Anne had ever laid eyes on, far better than any other kid.
Loïc was the name they had given him at the orphanage and it was the name that he would keep. Both of them had fallen in love with the name so they decided they would keep it. His middle name would be Alexander after Perrie's dad and his surname would be Pinnock-Edwards like his mums' names.
When the plane touched down the nerves increased but so did the excitement, they were finally in the same country as their little boy.
At the hotel, a two hour drive from the airport, Perrie slept as Leigh-Anne packed his little bag of toys and lollipops for their first visit the next day. They would have 3 visits before they could take him to the hotel and another 4 days after that until he could be officially adopted by them and his nationality could be changed to British. As Leigh-Anne climbed into bed her gaze fell onto the cot that the hotel had given them. She smiled as she pictured Loïc's tiny body curled up in the cot sleeping. The next few days would be hard but they'd make it through together and in no time Loïc would be theirs forever.
"Baby it's time to wake up." Perrie whispered, as she shook her wife's shoulder, their alarm had just gone off meaning that in a couple of hours they would get to touch and hold Loïc for the first time.
"I'm awake babe." Leigh-Anne yawned, kissing her wife on the lips afterwards.
"Today's the day," Perrie whispered, resting her forehead against Leigh-Anne's.
"Today's the day." Leigh confirmed, nuzzling her nose against Perrie's in an Eskimo kiss.
"Is the bag ready?" The blonde asked, glancing over at the case that had things for Loïc in.
"Yeah, I've put in a couple of toys, some snacks and lollipops, as well as a blanket, wipes and stuff because we don't know what the conditions are going to be for him." Leigh told her, grabbing the dinosaur bag her Mum had bought him over and showing her the stuff.
"Good, now lets get ready and go!" Perrie said jumping out of the bed and getting her stuff to change into from their case.
"Ok" Leigh said, grabbing her clothes too.
In twenty minutes they were waiting in the lobby of the hotel, thick coats and gloves waiting next to them as it was Baltic outside due to it being the beginning of February. A car was to come and pick them up and take them to the orphanage where they would meet their representative from 'UNITE Adoption service', a translator and the head of the orphanage. The meeting was set to last an hour then they would have an hour to spend with Loïc before going back to the hotel to sign some papers. While they waited Perrie pulled their camera out and turned it to face Leigh-Anne switching it on and asking her "Have you got an update for Loïc, maybe how you're feeling babe?"
"I'm pretty excited to see you Lo, but I'm a bit nervous as well, how are you feeling Mumma?" She replied, taking the camera and turning it so it was on Perrie.
"I'm feeling the same as Mammy, I can't wait to see your face Loïc." She told the camera.
"Ok, so do you want to tell him what we're doing today and why we're so nervous?" Leigh-Anne asked Perrie, turning the camera on herself.
"Yeah, so Mamma and Mammy are going to hold you for the first time today, aren't we?"
"Yep, we'll check in later Lo, so you can see the first time we see you." Leigh said before turning off the camcorder they had purchased so they could film the process for when Loïc was older.
As she did that the car pulled up and they were whisked away to the orphanage. Upon arrival, a shiver rippled through Perrie's body and it wasn't due to the freezing temperatures. The orphanage which was called 'institute of orphans, Kiev' loomed tall over their heads. A rusted swing set creaked next to the ominous building and Leigh-Anne was certain it had not been used in quite some time. The bars on the window gave an impression of a prison and both of the girls hated the thought of any children living there, let alone the one they had called their own for the past two years. They spotted a woman as they stepped out of the slightly dogie taxi.
"Hello, you must be Perrie and Leigh-Anne Pinnock-Edwards, I'm Chloe from 'UNITE Adoption service' we've been conversing for the past few weeks about your final steps in adoption." She said shaking each of our gloved hands with her's.
"Hi, it's lovely to finally meet you Chloe." Perrie said, after she had shaken her hand.
"You too, shall we get in, the translator should be here already." Chloe said, leading them towards the institute.
The nerves increased more and more, as they moved to the oak door. Perrie slipped her hand into Leigh-Anne's for reassurance and comfort, they knew the next few hours would be the hardest hours of their lives.
The corridors of the institution were just as grey as the outside. Cries echoed through them, breaking the hearts of the three ladies who were being led to the head's office by a child who could be no older than 12. Perrie noticed how his skin clung to his bones and his hands shook slightly when he opened each door. Her heart broke for him.
After the meeting with the head, who didn't look much different to Agatha Trunchball, they were lead into a small room that was filled with nothing more than two rickety chairs and a desk. "Here is your son" the translator said in a thick Ukrainian accent, as a worker brought in our sweet boy.
Their hearts both swooned and ached at their baby. His face was a little bit dirty and had less chub than the photo they had of him from almost a year ago. He was asleep in the worker's arms, his left arm hanging down. The worker placed him in Perrie's arms and she walked over and sat on a chair, happy tears falling at the ability of being able to hold her little lad. Leigh sat next to her and ran her hands through the short curls.
"Povernetʹsya cherez hodynu" The worker said which the translator, who was called Isobel, translated to "she will be back in an hour."
Both of the girls nodded then focused back on Loïc Alexander who was waking up a little bit. "Zdravstvuyte Loïc" Perrie cooed, utilising her very basic knowledge of the Ukrainian language to make him feel comfortable. His big blue orbs looked up curiously, some tears escaping them, as he noticed it was not a worker he was with. "I'm mamma" she said, which Isobel translated for him. They had decided Perrie would be Mamma until he was old enough to grasp the concept of having a Mummy as well. So for now Leigh-Anne would go by Lee.
"Hi Loïc I've got a lollipop for you, would you like it?" Leigh-Anne asked him, offering him a strawberry lolly. Once Isobel translated for him he nodded and took it off her, after she had unwrapped it. He sat there, sucking on the sweet, watching the world go bye, his tears had stopped falling by now and he was messing with the ring on Perrie's finger every so often. It was calm and peaceful in the room. The cries of other babies had been blocked out by the love that circled the dreary place.
Thirty minutes later Leigh-Anne took him as his eyes began to droop, singing softly as she rocked him back and forth. Perrie grabbed the small blanket they had packed and laid it over him so he would be a little bit warmer.
"You'll have to take the blanket off him when he is taken back through because of the ethos of the institute" Chloe explained to us, from behind the camcorder we had asked her to record on for us.
"Okay, how long have we got left?" Perrie asked her, stroking Loïc's hair.
"About ten minutes, I'm sure we could get them to let you lay him down in his cot if you want." Chloe informed us after she had checked her watch.
"That would be nice wouldn't it Lee." Perrie said nodding.
"Yeah, it's gonna be so hard to let him go" she whispered, laying Loïc so he was on her shoulder meaning she could rub his back.
"Yeah but you only have to say goodbye two more times then theoretically he's yours for the keeping." Chloe said sympathetically, snapping some pictures of the family on Perrie's phone.
The ten minutes went by quickly and in no time they were being led into a room that must have had about 15-20 cots in. "This is our room for children who are between 6 months and 3 years." The worker explained leading them through the room to an empty bed in the corner which must have been Loïc's. "here is his bed, lay him down now." She instructed, and the two girls did as they were supposed to. Perrie pulled back his thin sheets and Leigh-Anne laid him down on the lumpy mattress, taking his blanket off him. Once Perrie had pulled the sheet over him they both leaned down and kissed his head, whispering 'I love you'S in both English and Ukrainian. After that they were lead back out of the room, some tears falling from both of their eyes. Before they could leave however Perrie got a fright when a little girl gripped onto her hand, repeating something over and over in Ukrainian. She had pale skin, blonde hair and blue eyes and couldn't have been much older that two and a half. "Isobel, what is she saying?" Perrie asked, curiosity getting the better of her.
"Erm, she is saying take me, take me, I'll be no trouble take me." Isobel relayed which broke both of the women's hearts.
"Can you ask her what her name is?" Perrie asked Isobel who nodded and questioned the little girl quickly in Ukrainian.
"She says her name is Alina" Isobel told them once the girl responded.
"It's nice to meet you Alina I'm Perrie and this is Lee, are you okay?" Perrie asked and the little girl shook her head and responded something once Isobel had translated it.
"She said she's hungry." Isobel relayed to them and once again their hearts broke, Leigh pulled out a lolly and gave it to her before they waved bye and left, the worker getting progressively more angry at their delay, muttering things in Ukrainian that were making Isobel's eyes bulge slightly.
Once they had got out, both of the mums to be turned to Chloe and Perrie said, Leigh-Anne nodding in agreement, "is it a push to ask to adopt Alina?"
"Not really, I'll talk to the head and call you later with her response but I'm pretty sure she should be fine with it by the sound of what she was saying earlier she'd be happy to give all of the children away." Chloe explained to them.
"Okay, thanks Clo, I just don't think I could bear leaving her there for much longer." Perrie explained.
To cut a long story short, on the 6th of March, just over a month after the original adoption day for Loïc was meant to be, Perrie and Leigh-Anne Pinnock-Edwards became mums to Loïc Alexander and Alina Joy and they lived happily ever after. The children grew up to adopt children of their own as well as have biological children. And Perrie and Leigh-Anne extended their family 3 more times from all over the world. It really shows just how close they really were and that a mother's love know's no boundaries.
