"Alex, Sarah from reception's on the line, said something about someone needing to contact you" my trainer Steve said to me, holding out the phone for me.
"Alright, thank you" I said, taking the phone from him, holding it up to my ear saying "hello?"
"Hi Alex it's Sarah, I've got a guy on the phone called Paul, something to do with Perrie." Sarah told me, making my heart skip a beat.
"Oh okay, can you put him on?" I asked her, a bit of worry forming in the pit of my stomach, remembering Perrie saying Paul only contacts you if there's a problem.
"I'm afraid you'll have to come up to the desk, the phone systems aren't working for call transfers this morning." She told me apologetically.
"Okay, I'll be down as soon as I can." I told her before hanging up the phone and running out the room, down 3 flights of stairs and along 4 corridors to reach the front desk.
"Here you go." She said handing me the phone.
"Hello?" I said cautiously having only met Paul a couple of times.
"Hi Alex, its Paul, Perrie's tour manager, I'm afraid something has happened here and Perrie has been taken ill." He told me, causing my world to shatter a little more.
"How ill?" I asked him, hoping it was just something simple and he was just being kind and letting me know.
"We had to take her to the hospital, she wasn't doing great and it was the best place for her, she's stable and everything but we're just being cautious with all of her history." He informed me calmly.
"Oh my god, is she okay, can I speak to her?" I asked him, taking the phone and sitting down in the couch, running my hand over my face.
"She may be asleep but I'll try, it's pretty late here, I've already called Debbie, she's probably tried to contact you already." He told me, I could hear shuffling and the opening of a door.
"Thanks mate."
"Perrie, I've managed to get ahold of Alex, do you want to talk to him?" I heard Paul say, meaning she was awake, realeving just a little bit of the worry, "hi, I'll hand you over now." He told me.
"Babe?" She asked, breaking my heart, she sounded so sad.
"Hi sunshine, you okay?" I asked her, gulping back a tear.
"Yeah, it's my stomach and intestines that are the problem, are you at work?" She asked me.
"I am baby, I wish I was with you though" I said sadly, wanting nothing more than to hug all of her pain away.
"Did I take you away from training, I'm so sorry Alex?" she apologised.
"Its okay babe, you're my priority, I wish I could just come and cuddle you" I told her, imagining wrapping her up in my love.
"I wish you could cuddle me, it hurt so much, I just wanted you and Hatchi and mam more than anything" she told me, I could imagine the pout she had on her face.
"I want to kiss away that pout right now, I'm gonna try and get to see you when you get back before I fly out to Russia," I told her, wanting to hold her tight.
"Okay, I love you baby" Perrie said sadly, with a little sniffle.
"Don't cry babe, I can't cope not being able to hug you, I love you so much too." I told her, pouting a little.
"Can you FaceTime me later when your done training?" She asked quietly, almost shyly.
"Yep, I love you chicken, more than that amazing brain of yours can fathom." I chuckled, trying to make her laugh.
"Love you too, bye babe." She croaked, clearly about to cry.
"Your fab, you know that? Now, you get better for me Kay?" I said in a stern tone.
"I will, love you."
"Love you too baba, will you put me onto Sam?" I asked, so I could have a chat with her.
"Okay, I'll see you soon."
"Hi, its Sam." A kind voice came on the other end.
"Hi Sam, how is she really?" I asked, knowing she was sugar coating her pain.
"Just let me leave and I'll update you." She said then I could hear her stand up and leave, "righty, she's doing okay now, she was pretty bad. After we went out earlier she wasn't feeling great forwards the end of the thing at magic mike, so I offered to take her back. Well when I say offered I mean put my foot down, I got her to the hotel and she was feeling progressively worse, I told her to get ready for bed whilst I got her acid reflux stuff from her bag but by the time I had got it she was in a pretty bad way so I decided it'd be best to call an ambulance and get her to hospital. They checked her over and are pretty sure she's got a small bug that's messed up her stomach and intestines, she's on the mend mate, we're taking good care of her." She explained quietly, making my heart shatter. Pez had been poorly a couple of times whilst we had been together but never enough that she needed to be rushed to hospital.
"Okay thanks Sam, would you hug her for me?" I asked.
"Yup, now you get back to that job of your's and I'll get her back to you as soon as possible okay?" Sam said kindly.
"Okay, thank you, bye Sam." I said gratefully.
"Bye Alex."
I put the phone down an buried my head in my hands and wept, my beautiful baby was half way round the word, ill and couldn't do a thing about it. I felt a hand clap down on my back. "Tough day?" A fairly familiar voice said.
"Yeah, the missus is ill and she's in Las Vegas so it's just a bit difficult" I told the big boss, pinching the bridge if my nose.
"Look at me Alex," he said, so I did, a big fat tear dribbling from my eye, "there's gonna be days that are tough and all your gonna want to do go to your loved ones and leave this career behind. However, I know that you are stronger than this, if there's absolutely nothing you can do for that beautiful girl of yours then you have to push through that heartache and be the best version of you, you can be."
"Thanks coach, I'm gonna get back to it and do it for Perrie" I said, shaking the pain off and jumping up.
"Good lad, send her my love okay, now back to training" he said, shaking my hand, patting my back.
So that's what I did and it may or may not have been the best training session I have ever had.
**
"Hello?" Jade's face said when I called Pez's phone.
"Hi Jade, is Pez awake, or shall I call back?" I asked, tilting the phone up because I felt a bit exposed in only my boxers.
"I'll check for ya, I just didn't want it to ring off just in case you thought somthing was wrong." Jade explained, standing up, walking through what seemed to be a hotel room.
"Thanks Jade" I said, chuckling at her concentration face.
"Pezzie babs, you awake?" Jade asked, looking away from the camera to presumably Perrie.
"Yeah" I heard my baba croak.
"Good, I've got a surprise for you bab." Jade said, moving over to the bed, turning the phone to face Per.
"Hi chuck" I said, as her make-up free face appeared on the screen.
"Baby!" She said as enthusiastically as she could.
"Hi babs, how you feeling?" I quizzed, my eyes moving all over her face to make sure she looked better than earlier.
"A tad better, I've got all of my nurses making me better and if I'm honest seeing that chest is helping a tonne" she said making me chuckle, and lower the camera making her go "Alex what're you trying to do to me?"
"Ha ha babe, you've got your humour back" I said, winking at her.
"I guess I have! I'm still missing you though, how was training?" She asked me, rolling onto her side.
"It was one of the best I've ever had babs, I put all of my worry into it and it was great, how was coming back from the hospital?" I questioned.
"It was good, the girls have to go and perform soon. I'm glad you had a good training session, sorry I worried you." She pouted, pulling her Hatchi blanket up higher.
"Its fine babe, I just wanted you to be okay," I explained, stroking Leo off camera.
"well I'm better" she said although almost immediately after she winced.
"What hurts sweetheart?" I asked, my concern growing.
"Just my stomach, it'll go Alex" she said completely nonplussed.
"Are you sure, I'll text Sam for ya?" I said, giving her stern look.
"I'm fine Alex, Sam can't do anything to help." She protested but I had already texted Sam.
"Too late bub, when's your flight angel?" I questioned, knowing Sam had changed her flight.
"Half 4, mam's getting me, can you get down or are you working?" She asked, still wincing.
"I'm trying to rearrange my flight so it's from London so I can see you, the boss has cleared it so fingers crossed." I explained, even though I had already changed it.
"Okay, I'm getting sleepy, can you keep talking so I fall asleep?" She yawned, snuggling her face into the pillow.
"Of course, you're so beautiful Perrie, even when you aren't feeling well, so so gorgeous. I can't wait to see you and kiss your lips and give you a huge huggle. Close your eyes baba, I'm gonna see you really soon I promise. Love you angel" I finished as her breathing slowed and she fell asleep.
"What are you doing to me miss Edwards? I'm gonna have to marry you one day." I whispered, as I disconnected the call.
--------
"How far away are you?" Debbie asked, having answered the call to Pez's phone.
"About 2 minutes, I've brought the bubble bath she likes at mine with me and her fluffy dressing gown that she left. Is she awake?" I questioned, concentrating on the road.
"No she fell asleep in the car, Sam and I carried her in, she's on the sofa, do you need buzzing in or do you have the code?"
"I've got the code, see you in a few deb."
"Bye Alex love" Debbie cooed, disconnecting the call as I pulled up to her gates.
I punched the numbers in and waited for the gates to open. Once I had parked the car I hopped out, grabbing the bag of stuff, leaving my case in the car. I let myself in and was met by an excited Hatchi who was barking, scratching my leg.
"My goodness Hatchi, you'll wake Pez" Debbie said waving me into the living room.
I walked though and saw my sweet baby on the couch, curled under the Hatchi blanket. Crouching down in front of her, I brushed her hair away and laid my hand on her forehead, feeling the heat blazing through. Carefully, I kissed it and brushed her hair behind her ear, taking in how beautiful she looked in that moment.
"You're so beautiful Perrie, so so gorgeous." I whispered, trailing my thumb along he delicate cheekbones.
"You may as well hop up with her, she needs a hug" Debbie said to me, popping Perrie's medicine on the table.
"Okay, when does she need her medicine?" I asked, lifting Perrie's head and sliding underneath it.
As I stroked her hair, Debbie replied "she'll probably wake in an hour needing it, can I get you a drink Alex? Tea? Coffee?"
"A tea please Deb, she's burning up, do you have a cloth or somthing?" I asked, feeling the heat from her head.
"I'll get a flannel," she said before scurrying off. I continued to stroke Perrie's hair, enjoying the texture of it under my fingers. Suddenly she began to cough violently. I was pretty sure she was going to vomit so I gently turned her head so it was over my legs so she wouldn't choke. I stroked her back as she coughed hard.
"You're okay darling, you can be sick if you need to." I reassured her, as she carried on coughing. She began being sick at that point, he body going even more rigid.
"Deb, could you get a bowl, Pez is being sick" I called out as she continued to gag.
"On my way" she replied, coming in with a washing up bowl, placing it under Perrie's head, "That's the trick Perrie, get it out of your system, you'll feel better soon." She said, rubbing her daughter's back.
"I feel so poorly" she croaked ten minutes later, once she was done being ill and I had carried her to her room.
"I know angel, I know, do you want a drink?" I asked, as I pulled the duvet up to her chin and placed the bin next to her.
"Please, I'm happy you're here" she smiled, sleepily, as I grabbed the cup of water and helped her sip at it.
"I'm happy I can look after you even if it is only for a couple of hours." I said, settling next to her letting her curl into me.
"I'm tired" she yawned, burying her face into my jumper covered stomach.
"Sleep darling, I'll wake you before I leave" I whispered, kissing her head.
"I love you" she sighed.
"Love you too" I replied, cuddling my sick baba close by.
