Buzzing noises. Loud buzzing noises.
Satoko ignored them and continued to lay in bed.
The buzzing noises stopped. They started repeating again. Satoko mumbled a swear word and picked up her phone.
"What?" She asked in her usual irritated tone.
"I know you like to sleep, but this is important." A soft but a bit bossy tone was heard.
"It's not even that late, Ayase." Satoko grumbled as she scratched her messy hair.
"It's 12 PM." Ayase deadpanned.
"That's not that late." Satoko repeated, not getting out of her bed.
"For you it isn't." Her voice irritated Satoko a bit.
She loved her a lot, but she could really not mind her own business sometimes.
"What do you need me for?" Satoko asked, still not showing any hints of getting up.
"The job I told you about." Ayase said, her voice quivering a bit.
"Okay, I'm up." She finally got up and sat on her bed.
"Well, father said to wait for him at the forest. At 2." Ayase answered, her voice still a bit frightened.
"That's in two hours..." Satoko said out loud.
"Be happy I let you sleep so much." The brown haired girl tried to joke.
"Thank you so much for not minding your business." Satoko said, her light brown eyes rolling.
"Jeez, I'm just worried for your butt. I can't take care of you as much now that you're not here. I'm just nervous." Ayase explained, her sweet and soft voice back to normal.
"Just relax, mom. I'll be fine. And I'll try to wake up cause I'm still half asleep." Satoko told her, making her laugh.
"Fine, fine. Byeeee!"
And with that she let down her phone. She really hated getting up. She put on the first thing she saw, a green hoodie and black sweatpants. She really didn't care enough.
She slouched over to the bathroom and brushed her teeth and washed her face. Her hair was a black tangled mess, which she wasn't very bothered by. She looked in the kitchen. Her fridge was empty, since she really hated cooking. Satoko decided the best option would be just to buy quick food.
She put on her thick jacket and walked out. The cold air hit her face. The city is so cold since the shield came. While they did manage to have light through very good technological tricks, they still were trying to control the temperatures to make the people in the shield feel as if everything was normal. It's still not even close to being finished, so the people are left with cold dry air. It became a normal thing for her. She liked the cold. Although she really missed the snow.
She walked quickly, not wanting to waste a lot of time. Satoko looked at her favorite food place. She smiled as she walked inside. There wasn't a line there, as this food was very expensive. But she hadn't eaten here in a while, so an opportunity seemed fine. Just this once anyway.
"One small hamburger." She said to the waiter who she knew well.
He typed in the order very fast, very happy he got to see her again.
"Why, hello Miki-San! That would be 30 gibos." He answered to her request in a friendly manner.
She gave the money without hesitation. She loved this place, she could afford to eat here sometimes. It had quite the nostalgic factor. Satoko and her mother would often come here to get some food if she got a good grade.
She sat on the last remaining table. The place was quite small, not having a lot of tables. She didn't pull out her phone, she just admired the place and how it managed to still stay the same after all the things that happened. She would hate it if even the slightest change happened.
People she knew would smile at her and wave, she would do the same. She would usually talk with them, but today just wasn't the day. She would do it later, since she wouldn't stay long anyway. She loved the way things were and how they didn't change.
And just as she thought that, it seemed like she jinxed it.
A guy walked in, a guy she saw for the first time. His figure was tall and slender, taller than any guy she ever met. He was shaking from the cold, not taking off his jacket or hat. Or Scarf. Or gloves. He had a shit ton of clothes.
He took off the hood of the jacket off though, only to inspect what was around him. It revealed messy white hair that barely reached his shoulders. His skin was very pale, almost white.
Satoko watched him from afar. He seemed so odd and out of this world. Like she wasn't her species, but she knew he wasn't a demon. He couldn't act so tame if he was a demon.
He had odd clumsy movements, and he was rubbing his hands together to keep them warm. She disliked him already. He wasn't welcome here. It wasn't his place.
Though, when he made eye contact with her, it gave her chills. His eyes were red, pure red. He locked eyes with her.
She didn't know why she froze, but she felt odd fear. His eyes were so bright and peering, it almost reminded her of one of those demons. But... He couldn't be.
But all fear passed as he awkwardly looked around himself after that weird eye contact. As if he felt embarrassed. Satoko grinned in amusement. There's nothing to be scared off.
Although, she regretted giving him any warm gestures as he took it as a chance to walk to her. She looked down in awkwardness as he sat across her. This made her feel awkward and irritated.
Who was he to just barge in here?
"I never seen you here before." Satoko said sharply.
He looked up at her, almost in a childlike way. His slouchy sitting made him appear a bit smaller. His eyes were very interesting to her, almost mesmerizing.
"Um, this place was different before." He mumbled out as he looked around.
This guy was so weird. Like he didn't know what was going on. Satoko wondered how he didn't die from heat since he still didn't take off the jacket.
"What would you have?" The waiter asked him.
"Can I have some chicken soup?" The guy said, seeming like he was very uncomfortable with talking.
"This is a fast food place. We don't serve that." The waiter explained.
"Oh..." The guy looked down and looked at Satoko.
"I'll have what she got." He finished, pointing at the hamburger.
"One hamburger. 30 gibos." The waiter told him.
"Yes." The white haired guy said dumbly, not knowing what else to say.
He looked confused as he pulled out a wallet. He gave him the money, still looking like he was in his own world.
"Did you confuse this place for a restaurant?" Satoko asked him in a very teasing way.
"... I don't think I did..." He said in a very confused manner.
He really was a confused person. Satoko looked at the time.
1:30.
It was about time to leave now.
"I'll go now." She said as she got up.
He looked like he wanted to say something but stopped. Satoko turned around as she put on her black jacket.
"Yes?" She asked him, noticing his motion.
"N-Nothing." He stumbled over his words.
She really needed to go.She gave him one last glance before turning away and leaving.
Well, that was an interesting experience.
