"Please, wake up..." Naoki tried, his voice tired.
Another day of trying to wake Ayase up. He never got enough sleep, her screams would always wake him up. He didn't blame her for it. It was expected, she was hurt. It was just getting complicated to deal with. It'll be over today.
"Ayase, please, it'll all be over today..." He tried again.
She screamed again. He sighed. He just wanted to get this over with. He just picked her up. It's the last day anyway, he wouldn't have to do this anymore. Although this decision made Ayase cry severely more than usual, her nails digging even more deep.
"Leave me alone! You're just like father! You just want to use me." She screamed, her eyes wide and hair messy.
He put her in the car and closed it. It hurt. Of course it did. He hated being compared to him, but he couldn't do anything about it anymore. He'll just bare it for now, she doesn't mean anything she says anyway. She'll calm down eventually. She always does.
Naoki drove as he heard Ayase crying. It'll be fine. Today the digging would be over. She eventually did calm down, but it always took her to throw up to get better. The car stank, but at least she was sleeping a bit. He didn't mind at all. It'll all get better soon.
He stopped driving to pick up someone. Surprisingly, to break the tradition, it wasn't Benjiro. Teruo stood there, his face serious as always. He opened the car, this time changing his facial expression into a confused one.
"How come you wanted to drive me today?" Teruo questioned, noticing Ayase.
He got worried as all hell. He noticed why the car had an odd stench, for there was vomit all over the floor. He gulped. At least it wasn't blood like the last time, at least she ate. Looking at the positive side was so fucking hard these last few weeks. He wanted to help her so much.
"I wanted to talk to you." Naoki stated.
Teruo looked at him with a puzzled face, his brown eyes meeting Naoki's dark green. It looked like Naoki had something different in his eyes... Hope.
"Talk to me...?" He questioned the older man.
"I kind of see myself in you." Naoki smiled a bit.
Teruo felt confused. Why was he being so personal now.
"My childhood is fucked up. I stopped acting like a child sooner than I should. To protect her. To protect her innocence... It didn't turn out good." Naoki rambled a bit.
Teruo noticed something odd. He had tears in his eyes. But it didn't look like the tears were out of sadness.
"Are you okay, leader?" He questioned.
"You won't have to call me that for long. It'll soon be better." Naoki put a hand on his shoulder.
Teruo felt so confused. What was he rambling about?
"I don't-"
"You don't have to understand. I'll tell you your past. You can know, just not now. I need you for a little while longer. You'll have a normal childhood soon." He interrupted Teruo.
He had an idea where this was going. He had a plan, but he didn't know what the plan was. That made him nervous.
"What are you talking about?" Teruo questioned.
"I'll adopt you. You'll be safe."
Teruo's heart skipped a beat at those words. He was gonna adopt him? He was going to save him? He couldn't help but feel hopeful, after so many years he felt hopeful. Naoki kept his promises. He felt tears in his eyes. Could he manage to have a childhood finally? He had two more years until adulthood, this was actually possible.
