"Oh, it's you." Ayase said, her voice sounding relieved.
"That's a rather cold way to greet me." the blonde man said as he walked in the room, plopping next to her.
Benjiro sat there, his oversized blue hoodie going all the way to his mid thigh. She didn't know how he managed to look so cute, but he did. His hair was now cut a little bit over his shoulders, which still suited him quite nicely. It made his round face even more round. He was just cute all over.
"Aaaah, I didn't mean to! I was just scared someone else came!" Ayase replied nervously, still uneasy from the thought of that man coming over to visit her.
"Don't worry about a thing, dear. He's an occupied man, he won't even have the time." Benjiro assured her.
She often times forgot he was even a very respected gang member. He didn't even act like it, he was always bright and smiling. Nobody else was like that in this worn out gang, so he was quite refreshing. Sometimes she wished Naoki could be so warm towards her, but she understood very well that he couldn't be like that. He was a leader, not a follower. He couldn't be soft in this sort of gang, where everyone was dull and serious. Well, everyone except the always cheery Benjiro.
"I'm glad. I don't want to see him." Ayase said, knowing he wouldn't come just to see how she was doing.
He would probably hit her, and she wouldn't scream. He would probably tell her she was useless, and she would just agree. Maybe he should've came. She'd get what she deserved.
"But anyway, thank you for coming to visit me." Ayase smiled, trying to ignore the touchy subject about her father.
"Don't thank me, it's the least I could do after letting you get hurt like that." Benjiro looked at the floor, looking like he was terribly guilty.
Ayase pouted.
"Stop it. I was the one useless. It's not your fault you got caught." She retorted, trying to comfort him.
She often thought her best value was her comforting skills. She always wanted to be nice to everyone and help out whenever she could. Even if it meant it was at her own expense.
"Uh, yeah, wasn't my fault..." Benjiro mumbled to himself, knowing full well his plans on saving others haven't gone so well this time.
"I haven't even thanked Akiyama-Kun for saving me..." Ayase realized, feeling guilty about it.
Benjiro's eyes widened, remembering the scene that happened that night.
"Akiyama-San showed some... Incredible strength in that moment." Benjiro answered, his mouth unable to word it without sounding wrong.
"Yes, it was very surprising to see him react so fast when that man put a gun on my head. His strength really is something else." She stated, her green eyes deep in thought.
The way she said that sentence made Benjiro worried. Any other person would have said it in a terrified voice, experiencing a near death situation. Or at least some sort of discomfort. She looked serene, very close to looking happy. Like if the man pulled the trigger, she'd be very happy.
"You do know it wouldn't be better if this situation turned out different, right?" Benjiro said, looking at her surprised expression.
She looked down, as if she was ashamed at how easily he read her. Like she didn't want him to know such shameful feelings.
"We should be happy he saved you. I mean, I'm really happy. I can get to know you now." Benjiro said, smiling at her.
That seemed to make her a bit better, although he wasn't quite as cheery in the moment as it seemed. The way Shiro attacked the man was animalistic. He literally just appeared behind the man, no one even noticed. Next thing they knew was that there was blood pouring out of his stomach and Ayase got a gun shot wound. Nobody knew what happened exactly, but there were some dark speculations. Benjiro wanted to keep an eye on this strange man. Not much is even known about him, and his records are very confusing. He wanted to go deeper, but he never thought it was necessary. Now he saw the importance, as he seemed to be more important than it should've been in the first place.
