Benjiro waited with his small child in the hospital. Teruo was there too, as requested by Ayase. Today was the day. His wife, Ayase, was giving birth to her second child. This was his first actual child. Although, he'll consider it his second one. He learned to love Hana so much that it was unbelievable, he did feel like she was his kid. His little pumpkin.
Hana was taller than other kids, even stronger. The kids in kindergarten were a bit scared of her, but she didn't have problems making friends. She was loud but a bit impulsive. He considered the child funny, he loved the shit out of it.
Her hair was cut short, as she wanted herself. She wanted to be like her mom, even at a young age. He disliked that though. She already started training the kid, even though she wasn't even four. It wasn't anything extreme, but he knew it would start getting harsher and harsher over the years. It was obvious who the kid liked more, even if he wasn't her real dad.
"Is mother gonna be alright?" Hana asked, sitting fidgety in her seat.
He smiled at the kid. She was very fidgety and energetic. She liked all types of sports and she smiled a lot. Maybe she'd grow up in a softer environment than Ayase. Well, for sure, since she wouldn't have an abusive dad.
"She'll be fine. She's just handling your little sister now." Benjiro answered, laughing at the word he used.
Teruo was quiet the whole time, jealousy killing him. Ah, how he wished he had an option to even have children and raise them. But he didn't. He could only watch as other people get lives and he just keeps on living the same life he always lives. It's like he stood still in time while everyone else moved on and grew.
He looked at the kid. Her dark green eyes were noticeable. Too noticeable. Whenever he looked at her, he just remembered how she was made and how he couldn't have anything similar. He couldn't look at her for too long. Somehow he disliked her, even if she was a kid. Just a product of rape and incest.
A doctor came outside of the room. Benjiro felt a bit worried, Ayase was still just recovering from being underweight. But as soon as he saw the doctor looking happy, he knew there was nothing to worry about.
"Miss Setsuko gave birth prope-" Screaming was heard from the hospital room.
They looked at each other in panic and Teruo busted in the room immediately, not wanting anything bad to happen to Ayase. She was there, laying at the bed, shaking and screaming. The doctors were trying to give her the baby, but she frantically refused it.
"Green eyes! I tried to get rid of it! I don't want it! GET IT AWAY!" She screamed, loudly banging her head on the wall.
The doctors held her still, trying to give her a injection to calm her down. She wouldn't want to do it, but they still managed, no matter how strong she was. She calmed down slowly, looking like she'll fall asleep soon.
Benjiro looked at the baby that the nurse was holding. She knew why Ayase reacted that way. Green eyes. He didn't know why, but he felt weird too. Not that he'd love the kid any less, but somehow he wanted the Setsuko gene to go away. But even now, even when the father wasn't a family member, the eyes still got to the kids. No matter how much they were happy, somehow the green eyes still managed to make it. Just like poison, a curse.
He held the baby, feeling immense happiness that he even had a child with her. He forgot about the green eyes as soon as he held it. It felt so right. Miku was a cute baby, but less chubby than Hana was. He noticed that was more like it, more like his genes.
Benjiro returned the baby to the nurse, knowing he couldn't quite keep it until Ayase goes out of the hospital. He got worried about if she'll even want to feed it or care about it, but he was sure it would pass her by the next time she saw the baby. It was just a shock the first time.
As Benjiro walked out, he noticed Teruo still looked quite shocked and worried.
"She doesn't have any luck..." Teruo mumbled.
"Those green eyes are quite the hard gimmick to get rid of." Benjiro commented.
Teruo kept quiet, looking angrily at the floor. Benjiro sighed.
"I know you don't like me much." He started.
"Uh, what? No, I..." Teruo stumbled on his words, trying to cover it up.
"I know you love her." He continued calling him out.
Teruo could only get red in the face as he looked down at the floor.
"It's okay. I understand. But I don't care. As long as you promise me one thing."
Teruo looked at him, a confused face written on him.
"Promise you'll protect her." What Benjiro said surprised him.
"I'll protect her with my life." He stated seriously.
"That's what I'm counting on. I believe you won't try stealing her away or anything, but I know you'll protect her better than I ever could. Just don't disappoint me." Benjiro told him.
Teruo nodded, his head high. Somehow, this felt good. Like he wanted him to tell this.
"Let's go home, deary." He said, taking the little girl by the hand toward the car.
"Don't disappoint me, Tsukamoto-San!" He yelled one last time before he went into the car.
Teruo sighed. He already did protect her with his life. He didn't care about anyone or anything else. He didn't have anything or anyone to protect to begin with. Who else would he protect but the only girl he cared about? He didn't even know if he cared about her or if it was the only thing he clinged on to because it gave him feelings. If it wasn't for her, he would've grown up alone and cold. He couldn't let this feeling of love go, or else he'd be empty and emotionless.
He'll protect her. He knew it would end badly, but he'll protect her until he died. He'll serve her and obey her. He had nothing else to live for anyway. He hated the fact he couldn't be anything more with her, but he couldn't do anything about that.
He could only watch as she grew older and more bitter, slowly forgetting what she even was before the gang life. He didn't even know who or what he loved in the first place. If he even loved her or the memory. Years passing by without anything getting better and nothing changing.
Sometimes he'd wonder if it was even worth it.
But it was. It always was. As long as he was by her and protecting her. Even if it meant looking at her and Benjiro and their children. He hated it, it hurt him. But at least it wasn't nothing. How he missed Naoki. If only he didn't die. He'd be adopted and happy. All of that went into the dirt. Somehow, he knew, that everyone that met the Setsuko family ended up unhappy. It was just destined to be that way.
Just how it was inevitable that she would get killed. He couldn't do anything about it. It was just a curse that went on and on, to their children and to their grandchildren and so on. Such poison. It's like their story repeated itself endlessly, no matter how much they tried to end it.
Although, Ayase's story was over. It was time for her children to repeat the story. The older sibling protecting the younger, making her spoiled and useless. The older sibling dying, the youngest one taking over...
And he had to witness all of that. He sighed as he went through the endless time of bad luck. He stopped getting hurt. It just went on like that...
And it will repeat itself until the family dies off all together.
