Billy would kill you if he saw who you were with. It's not like you were doing anything bad, because you weren't, it's that you were with another guy. He couldn't control his jealousy and maybe that's why you were still stuck with him.
"So, how long have you two been together?" Steve asked from his chair by the pool. You had both agreed coming to Steve's pool would be relaxing, quiet, and away from all the obnoxious drunk people.
"Uh, about a month or two." You said.
You were so tense.
Steve noticed it, watching you sit up straight, hands tightly clenched as you fiddled with the sweater over your shoulders.
"Hey, if that made you uncomfortable," He began, watching your eyes dart to him. "You can take it off."
You nodded but didn't move it from your shoulders.
"Billy would kill me right now." You muttered, tucking your knees to your chin and staring over at the calm, slow moving water.
Steve sighed, looking over at you.
You were different to him. He could see how hurt and damaged you had become in that relationship with such an asshole but he felt like he couldn't do anything about it.
He could see you wanted to be free but it's like you were still chained to the ground, Billy behind you while light stood in front.
"Hey, don't think about him right now. We came here to get away and relax, not worry about him." Steve said.
"But you don't know Billy." You said back.
"Oh, I think I know plenty enough about him."
You looked over at him. "Do you? Do you really? If you really knew anything about him, you would know that if he didn't see me after about ten minutes of looking, he'd be on his way. If you really knew him, you'd know how jealous he can get and how violent that can be. If you really knew him, you'd know that he's my jailer and I'm the prisoner." You yelled. "If you really knew him, you'd know he yells at me. He hurts me mentally and emotionally and I can only go with what he says or it gets worse."
Steve stood up, walking over to you. "You don't have to let him control, ____. You can fend for yourself."
"Yeah, I've tried that a couple times. Only ends up with me being slapped." You muttered, suddenly growing tense when Steve put his hands on your hips, bringing you closer to him.
You stared up into his eyes, Steve's staring right back as the calm moving water stood behind you. Crickets chirped and there was a soft breeze but that didn't stop him.
He began to lean down, his lips moving towards yours slowly but you turned your head towards his gate when you heard a car roll up.
"Shit." You muttered, pushing Steve off of you while you gave him an 'I'm sorry' look. He didn't look upset or anything but just nodded in understanding.
"Oh, ____." Billy sang out, laughing loudly before slamming open the gate neither of you bothered to lock behind you.
You stood frozen in fear, watching as he looked at the scene in front of him.
"You with Harrington now? You know that's called cheating, right?" He yelled from across the other side of the pool before walking over to you, a newly lit cigarette between his lips, bouncing whenever he talked.
Steve stood back, looking at you shrink slightly.
"Billy, it's not what it looked like I swear-"
You felt something hit your face. He hadn't slapped you in well over a month, so that came as a true surprise.
"You can't be cheating on me, ___. I have to keep you in line." He grumbled, turning around to look at Steve.
"As for you, don't touch or even look at my girlfriend. Got it, Harrington." He yelled to him. Steve didn't do anything but watch Billy grab your hand, tugging you away towards his car and he felt like there was nothing he could do.
You gave him one last hopeful look before being tugged out of the Harrington's backyard and to Billy's car.
-
"What the hell were you thinking?" Billy asked you loudly, glancing over at you slumped in the seat and staring out the window while a red mark was evident on your left cheek. A small tear rolled down your cheek."When I ask a question, answer me." He said loudly. You didn't move but managed to get out a few words.
"He wanted to leave that party because he was bored and I said I'd go to."
"Why?" Billy asked, urging you forward.
"Because I was bored also! I'm not a partier! You know that!"
"Hey!" He exclaimed, causing you to shrink back into the seat. "Don't raise your voice to me."
You let out a sigh, wiping away the tears that rolled down your cheeks. You were in some deep shit between Billy and Steve but you couldn't do anything about that.
"I'll drop you off at home and you better apologize to me tomorrow." Billy said, stopping abruptly in your driveway as you climbed out of the seat.
Billy grab your wrist pulling you towards him as he stared at your bloodshot eyes from all the crying you did and seeing the red mark he made on your cheek.
"Tell you what, I'm sorry." He said, catching you off guard.
"Wh-What?" You managed to say.
"I'm sorry that I let you get bored at that party but we both know that Harrington couldn't of done you any better."
"It wasn't like that, Billy. Now I have to go. Goodnight." You muttered, getting out of his grasp and running towards your front door, slamming it shut before running to your room.
You didn't let loose until you heard Billy's car drive away.
-
"Is that really what happened?" You asked someone in the hallway about Tina's party and how someone had managed to get to the roof of the house. The girl nodded, laughing a little. "Yeah, insane right."
You nodded, noticing Nancy walking towards you with a confused look on her face. She grabbed your hand and tugged you away outside where she could talk to you without all the loud noises.
"Did I break up with Steve last night?" She asked.
You slowly nodded. "Yes."
"Oh."
"Listen, it's okay. He's fine."
Nancy raised an eyebrow. "How would you know that?"
You shrugged. "We talked some. I couldn't stand that party any longer so we just decided to go on to his house and talk."
Nancy smirked. "Sure."
"I swear that's all we did. You know Billy and how jealous he is."
Nancy glanced towards your arms where you bored a sweater that looked like one similar to Steve's.
"Oh, this? He let me borrow it while we were at the party because I was cold. I'm giving it back to him today."
Nancy smiled. "You two should be together."
"I wish we were."
"___!" You suddenly heard.
You turned around, seeing a girl with frightened eyes.
"What happened?"
"There's a fight. A fight between Billy and Steve."
