You had been dating for a while now, but even with those long years backing up your relationship, it seemed as if you two began to grow apart everyday.

You pondered these thoughts while snacking on a granola bar while making your way to class, late as usual.

Yes, you had the reputation of being later to class than usual but still managing to contain solid A's in all of your classes. Some would say it was pure luck. Others said it was brain power.

However you did, it didn't matter.

You finished off the snack, tossing the garbage into a nearby trash can before walking into Mr. Clarke's classroom where he sent you a softened smile before continuing with his lesson.

You took your usual spot in the back next to Max who was staring out the window with crossed arms as she usually did.

"Hey, what did I miss?" You asked her, whispering so Mr. Clarke wouldn't hear you.

She turned towards you. "Nothing, really."

You nodded, turning to the front of the classroom where you saw your boyfriend talking to his friends.

He didn't turn around once.

You got up from your seat, slowly collecting your items and belongings before making your way to the front of the classroom with Max.

"Yeah, dude! It's crazy!" You overheard Mike say to Lucas who just laughed in response.

Mike always put a smile on your face for so many years, and you were grateful for that.

"Mike?" You asked, sweetly. You had learned to be gentle with your voice around him because of all the stuff that had occurred during last year. You knew most of it, but not all of it.

"Yes?" He asked, turning around to face you. You had a glimmer of hope in your eye at this small connection that was occurring. Something like this hadn't happened in a while.

"Do you want to maybe do something after school today? I'm free, basically all today and tomorrow." You asked.

He looked at you before glancing over at Lucas. "Uh," He started, awkwardly scratching the back of his neck. "I actually have plans with the guys so maybe later? Bye, ___." He finished hurriedly, kissing your cheek before walking off and ranting about something to Lucas.

You frowned. This wasn't the Mike you knew. Had he gotten tired of loving you? Were you that boring to him? Did he think you weren't enough? Did he think you were over dramatic or over emotional?

So many questions ran through your head at one time, you had to put up a hand to brace your forehead before deciding to leave the classroom.

"Max, do you think I did something to upset him?" You asked her as you two walked down the hallway towards your lockers.

She shook her head. "No, I don't think so. Maybe he's planning something." She shrugged, opening her locker.

You did the same, taking a minute to observe the many scattered and taped up pictures that included you and Max, you and your closest friends, and you and Mike together.

Something had changed. You could sense it.

"I hope none of this was my fault." You muttered, catching Max's attention.

She turned towards you, embracing you into a tight hug. "Hey," She cooed. "Don't worry about it. If you really want to know if something is going on, go talk to him about it, okay?"

You nodded. "I don't think I can do that right now. Maybe later. Maybe he's just not having a good day and needed to talk to Lucas or Dustin. I mean, that makes sense. I'll give him a few days to sort it all out."

Max nodded. "Just call me if you need anything. And by call me, I mean come to my window because Billy has definitely been acting all flirty around you."

You cringed. "Isn't that illegal?" You questioned.

She nodded. "Yeah. Maybe he's practicing for someone on you. You can never be too sure with him."

You both laughed, shutting your lockers and walking down the hallway to head to the next class period, the thought of why Mike had changed so quickly in the back of your mind as you laughed along with Max.
