Running didn't seem like an option anymore.
Your past was something you couldn't escape no matter how hard you tried to push it back from everyone— it still existed and it still had happened.
Your mind raced through all the past memories you had with your ex-boyfriend, who still went to this school, as you tried to relax your nerves.
You sat outside the school in your car the Monday after you guys had broken up, remembering the look of anger flare up in his once tempting eyes.
Sighing, you slowly reached a hand to your door and opened it. Stepping out onto the ground in a pair of black tennis shoes and high waisted jeans, you straightened yourself and the blue turtle neck you wore and tried to walk inside the building.
Memories came flooding back.
Things seemed so much more simple back when he wasn't who he had become. Controlling, tempting, demanding. Words that all had a negative connotation.
You shoved your hand against the cold metal to open the door as it swung slightly, allowing you inside the currently empty hallways of Hawkins High.
Searching around, you didn't see anyone in the hallways so you decided to take a minute to try and breathe. Things could go horribly or okay.
A few seconds later, the bell rang. Students flooded out of the classrooms and into the hallway, moving around you and other peers as they desperately tried to get to class.
Your eyes scanned the crowd, afraid of who they might find.
Unfortunately, they found him.
He stood at his locker, giving you a slight smirk as you tried to push the thoughts from your mind. His usual creepy smile was there, nearly waving itself in your face.
Immediately, you grew sick to your stomach and turned around. You practically ran out of the building as the sound of him shoving through the crowd was all you heard.
You ran out of the building and straight into your car, turning the ignition and zooming out of the parking lot, straight to your boyfriend's house.
It was a smile you couldn't describe on a person. It was terrifying.

You knocked on the door several times, trying to get him to answer as soon as possible in case your ex followed you here. The door opened slowly, revealing a sleepy Steve Harrington as he looked down at you, rubbing his eyes.
"Yeah?" He asked, trying to keep himself awake.
"You have to let me in."
The fear was evident in your voice and caused Steve to immediately pull you inside his house and lock the door behind you.
"What happened? What's going on?"
You tossed your books and backpack to the ground, shoving yourself into his arm's embrace. "Billy's doing it again."
Steve held back onto you tightly, keeping an eye on the window on the front door where you had entered his house.
He was home sick with a cold today along with being in a fight the day earlier with Billy, so the school had also made him stay home because of those reasons.
"I tried to walk in this time, to actually face him. But when I saw his face, God, I just—"
"Tensed up?" Steve muttered into your hair.
You nodded. "Yeah, tensed up. Exactly."
"I understand. Billy was abusive and controlling. It's good that you got out of that relationship. After all, everyone knew it wasn't going to last."
You nodded lightly, letting go of him to wipe the small puddles of tears running down your face.
"Aw, baby, don't cry. It's okay. I will never let him get you. He can't follow you here."
You shrugged. "He can leave school, Steve."
"He wouldn't dare mess with me again."
You smiled up at him, standing on your tiptoes to place a gentle kiss on his cheek. "My hero."
