Question: What's your favorite song right now?
We stayed like that, getting lost into each other's eyes, for who knows how long. And I swear, this couldn't feel more perfect. Or so I thought, because after that the most magical thing happened.
Tyler's POV:
She quickly pecked my lips softly, like she was scared that I would reject her. No one could reject her if they tried. Then I thought back to her father, and I could feel my blood boiling. She never really knew what it felt like when someone loved her enough to protect her. To keep her out of harms way. I was determined to be the first.
My hand went to her cheek and my thumb ran along her cheekbone. The whole time she was staring into my eyes, like she was trying to read me. Finally, I pulled her to me and softly pressed my lips against hers. Simultaneously, we both closed our eyes. Our lips began moving in sync, it was like the perfect harmony. I never wanted this moment to end. Ever.
But all too soon, she pulled away and walked out of the room, completely discarding my groans of protest. I soon found myself following her as she went into her room and began digging around in her bag. She seemed satisfied when she pulled out the locket she wore everyday. She then glanced at me and began walking in my direction. She stopped in her tracks when she was less than an inch away from me and she opened the locket and showed me what was inside.
It was a picture of her family. Just her and a man and woman who I presumed to be her parents. I could feel the blood rush to my face in anger as I looked at her father. The man who's supposed to protect her. Alex must've noticed this because she touched my cheek, bringing my attention back to her. She kissed me softly and pulled away a second later with a small smile on her face. "It's okay. I'm not there anymore. I'm here, with you." That thought made me smile. But I still couldn't stand the idea of her father wanting to hurt her. I want to do something about this one day. I need to do something about this one day. But for right now, I'm just gonna be there for her. Whatever she needs, I want to be there.
I broke out of my train of thought when my phone pinged, indicating that I got a text. It was probably from one of my friends who I haven't been spending a whole lot of time with. And I was right.
Dude. The teams throwing a party the Saturday before our first game of the season. you HAVE to come. i'll even bring the alcohol.
-Brent
I shook my head at this idiocy and sent him a quick text back.
Isn't today the Saturday before our first game?
-Tyler
Oh man your right! Gotta go set up with the rest of the team. But your coming. Its not up for discussion.
-Brent
Ugh. Fine. I'll be there. When does it start and where is it at?
-Tyler
YAY. It starts at 4 and its at my house, of course.
-Brent
I didn't reply to his last text since I already said that I was going. I looked up and saw Alex looked at me with a worried expression. "What's wrong?" she asked.
"Oh, nothing. The basketball team's just throwing a party. And apparently I have to go." When she didn't respond I looked up to see her brows furrowed in confusion.
"I'm sorry, I'm not finding anything unappealing in that sentence..." She said. I chuckled.
"There isn't anything wrong with the sentence if you forget the part where I would have to leave you here."
She moved towards me until there was no space between us. She looked deep into my eyes, probably making sure that I heard her. "I'll be fine, Tyler."
Then she suddenly went behind me and pushed me into the bathroom down the hall. "You've got about twenty minutes till the party and you haven't taken a shower yet. I'll put some clothes outside of the door for you." And that was the last thing I heard before she slammed the bathroom door shut. I sighed and locked the door. She was right, I thought as I stripped off my old clothing, I'm running really late. I hopped into the shower and used my favorite soap to get rid of the sweaty stench that came off of me. After I was done, I dried off and peeked outside the door to find a pair of blue jeans and a black button up shirt. I slipped on my undergarments, then the clothes and left the bathroom with my slightly damp hair.
I walked into the living room to find Alex watching herself on the news.
"The police has told us that further digging has showed that Alexandra Monica Everpin has committed many crimes besides the murder of Mackenzie Thomas nearly seven months ago. Some of these crimes include petty theft and attempted murder on many people who seem to have no connection. Here is a video from a security camera that recorded one of Alexandra's theft." A video played that had bad lighting. Alex turned to the camera, but you wouldn't be able to tell that it was her unless you expected it to be, which it was. Then it switched back to anchor woman. "The police have also confirmed that the murder weapon was a knife. They found it buried in the Everpin backyard. If you see this teen please call the police immediate-" She turned off the TV and just sat there. She must've felt my presence because she turned around and when she saw me, she stood up. Her eyes shamelessly roamed my body.
"Like what you see, Alex?" I asked with a smug smirk reaching my face. Her eyes cane back to my face and her face turned a bright red.
"How much of that did you hear?" She asked cautiously.
"Most of it." Her eyes widened.
"Tyler, I swear to you that I didn't do that. I know that the person in that video looks exactly like me, but I swear that I didn't do that. I wouldn't never -" I cut her off with a kiss.
"I believe you." I whispered against her lips. I grabbed the keys that were behind her on the coffee table and then stepped away. "Alright I'm gonna go now cause I'm already late. There's food in the fridge but feel free to order a pizza or something. I'll try to be home as soon as my loser friends will let me leave. Okay?" I was at the door now, about to leave. I kissed her forehead and then her lips and jogged to my car.
I'm gonna gonna get completely and utterly drunk tonight.
