Tyler's POV:

The party was a lot more than just the basketball team. As I pulled up towards Brent's house, I couldn't help but notice the multiple lines of cars that sat along his street. I parked my car amongst the others and got out. As I began walking up Brent's humongous driveway, I thought about how drastically my life has changed since I met Alex.

Before, I was a player. And I was proud of it. I was proud of the fact that at anytime of day, I could have any girl I wanted. I loved knowing it. And when Alex came, I wanted to make her want me too. So, I acted like I was in love with her. But somewhere along the way it stopped being an act. I actually fell for her. And she fell for me too, I think. And now, all the other girls don't matter. Because the only thing that matters is Alex.

I walked in through the open front door and I could immediately hear the squeals and shouts of excitement from outside the back door. I followed the noise and soon found that the team was divided into two different teams, playing a game of basketball against each other. I assumed that most people were rooting for Brent's team because whenever he scored, the girls would swoon over him and the guys would yell out things of encouragement. Despite the multiple distractions, mostly the girls in bikinis a few sizes too small, they played well. By the time the game ended, an hour had passed and the scores were extremely close. Brent's team won by two points. The entire basketball team carried Brent inside for shots of hard liquor and snacks. The guests emptied their beers in the bushes and other plants close by to the back door.

As people filed into the living room and on the stairs, loud music blared through the speakers. The lights were dimmed and the shades were closed, making people feel like it was nighttime, me included. I followed the sweaty basketball players into the kitchen to find them doing tequila shots. I quickly stuffed my keys and my phone in my pants pockets and joined them. They all raised their eyebrows in surprise that I was drinking, but soon shrugged it off and resumed. And for the first time in a long time, I drank. And I definitely didn't stop at one shot.

Alex's POV:

Tyler had been gone for countless hours which worried me. Granted it was a high school party, but he would've called if he was going to say until midnight. Which he did.

I wanted to go to sleep at around ten, but I also wanted to be awake when Tyler came back. As if on cue, the doorbell rang. I opened the door and a wobbly Tyler stood before me, but that wasn't the shocking part. The shocking part was all of the cuts and bruises on his face and probably under his clothes too. He got into a fight with someone. But that just doesn't sound like something Tyler would do.

I wasted no time as I threw one of Tyler's arms over my shoulder and lifted him up, hauling him into the bathroom to tend to his wounds. I set him down on the edge of the tub and got out the first aid kit from underneath the sink. I was about to clean his cuts with a wet towel when he caught my wrist. He looked at me and said "I'm fine. You don't need to take care of me." However, he slurred some of the words. I wasn't having any of that. I moved the towel closer to his face and he pushed back. After the third try he finally sighed in defeat and said "Fine, I'll let you play nurse." I smiled victoriously.

As soon as I touched the smallest cut, which was on his lip, with the wet towel, he sharply inhaled, letting me know that he's in pain. I instantly retracted my arm and gave him a worried look, to which he responded with a grin. He brought my face close to his and whispered "You should've seen the other guy."

My curiosity got the best of me and I asked "Who was the other guy?"

He instantly scowled, which only deepened my curiosity. He looked away, making it clear that he didn't want to answer the question. So I held his chin and turned his face back to me and asked once again. "Who was the other guy?"

His gaze fell but he didn't turn away from me again. It was almost like he was ashamed of what he did. Which he should be. But his shame ran deeper than that. I understood this as soon as he answered the question because his answer was "Your father."

Hey guys! Guess what?! We are literally only 70 reads away from 1k reads! Thank you guys so much. This means the world to me. Also, I know that this chapter is a lot shorter than my other chapters, but I honestly have no excuse other than the fact that I've been a bit lazy. Oh also! As soon as I finish this story, I want to change the title to something that connects a little bit more to the characters and the plot of the story. Thoughts?
