I walked down the steps and opened the door to find two policemen staring at me.

Alex's POV:

They found me.

I'm going to jail.

My life is over.

These were the only thoughts running through my head as I stared at the two policemen standing at the door of Maddy's house. I was careful not to let my face reveal anything, just in case I was wrong. They found me. I'm going to jail. My life is over.

Those thoughts quickly faded away when I heard the officer on the left say, "Ma'am, I'm sure you know about the murder that happened in the next town about two months ago. The murderer is still running loose. She ran as soon as her interrogation was over. This is the most recent picture we have of her." He held up a picture of me when I was ten, and looked completely different than I did now.

I plastered on a surprised look and said "She murdered someone? She's like eight!" I began internally laughing at my acting skills.

"No, this a picture of her when she was ten. She's actually seventeen now." The officer on the right said.

"Well what about the interrogator? He must remember what she looks like, right?"

Please say no.

Please say no.

Please say no.

"No, he doesn't remember." he said with a sheepish smile. "All he knows is that she's a 17 year old Caucasian with brown hair and that her full name is Alexandra Monica Everpin. Ring any bells?" He asked hopefully. You could see that the officers had no way of finding me, they were just looking, without knowing what they were looking for. I shook my head. "Ma'am do you live here?" they asked innocently.

"No, this is actually my friends house." I answered honestly.

"Would you mind giving us your address?" I got a piece of paper out of my backpack, which I had left at the door when I arrived at the house, and wrote down Hunter's address on it along with my cover name. "I live there with my boyfriend."

"Alright, thank you." They said as they began walking back to their car.

I grinned as I closed the door of Maddy's house. They haven't found me. They don't know how to find me. This was great, everything was going great. I continued grinning as I went back into Maddy's room, making her ask suspiciously "Who was that?" I filled her in on our conversation, leaving out my thoughts of course, and watched in amusement as their eyes grew wide. After I finished telling them what happened, they both nodded, going back to their previous conversation about God knows what.

I smiled again. Today was a good day.

--

I was eating lunch with Maddy and Angie and Tyler visited me again, only this time was different. He rudely pulled me away from Maddy and Angie, without even a nod of acknowledgement, and dragged me away. He kept dragging me, not saying a word, until we reached the back of the school where the basketball court was. The court was always wet for some reason. Besides after school basketball practice, no one used the court anymore. Apparently, I was mistaken.

"What are we doing here?" I asked, clearly annoyed with him.

"Well," he began explaining "I wanted to talk to you like I usually did during lunch, but I also needed to practice for when basketball season starts. So I decided to do both." He ended with a shrug. The nerve of this boy.

"You do know that we left behind my two friends, right?" I asked, sarcasm dripping in every word.

"Yes. Yes, I do." He said, evidently not caring. I watched him practice for a while, reminiscing about my basketball days and how they came to a stop when I was framed for murder. I was the best on the team. I was so good that our coach wanted me to teach the other players on my team how to play as well as me, which I failed at. The reason why I was so good was because I when play, it sets off my competitive nature, making the thought of losing unbearable, especially in basketball.

"You play?" Tyler asked me, pulling me out of my trance. He was breathing heavily and sweat was starting to form on his forehead, making it shine.

"Once or twice." I said, crossing my arms. That answer was a complete lie. I had been playing since I was toddler. Granted, I wasn't as good back then, but still... He waved me over to the middle of the court, where he was standing. When I didn't move, he began pulling me by my wrist. He was lucky that I had worn jean shorts and converse, otherwise I wouldn't even consider it.

I tied my jacket around my waist and spread my legs a little wider than shoulder width, squatting down a bit and leaning forward, preparing to play. He assumed the same position across from me and passed me the ball. I stayed still for a few seconds, making a plan in my head. The only weakness he has, that I could see, was the fact that he was right handed. I needed to pass him on his left side to make it harder for him to steal the ball.

Finally, my feet moved to my right, his left, allowing me to pass him. Just as I was about to make a clear shot into the basket, I felt two arms go around me waist, and my feet weren't on the ground anymore.

"What are you- Put me- Stop! Tyler!" I stuttered. I couldn't find the right words to say to him, and could you blame me? He was infuriating. But then he did something to make me even more angry with him, I didn't even think that was possible. He did something that made me want to right hook him in the eye.

He chuckled.

The boy had the audacity to chuckle.

Sometime between then and now, he switched from bear hug to bridal style, effortlessly carrying me in his arms. He seemed to be enjoying this thoroughly, while I was fuming. I couldn't help but admire how he looked when he was laughing. He seemed free and light and I couldn't help but smile at this. Before I knew it, I was laughing along with him. It felt good to laugh again.

His laughter died down after a while, mine along with it. He looked down at me, his eyes filled with affection. He gave me a small smile. It was contagious, making me smile too. He leaned down a bit, not enough to alarm me, but just enough that I would notice. "I wasn't lying when I said I would wait for you." He set me down gently on my feet and leaned down to whisper in my ear. What he said sent a warm feeling through my body. It made me smile and it made me see him differently.

"I'm in it for the long haul, basketball girl."

Then he walked away, leaving me breathless.
