Chapter 36 - Where Do You Think You're Going?

Alex's POV:
"Okay, Alex. Today's session was very good, and I'm very proud of you for opening up to me." I sent her a quick smile and a nod, which she seemed satisfied with. She got out of her seat at the same time I did and pulled me to her. It was somehow embarrassing, considering that John was watching us. "See you in a couple days, Alex." She said once she finally let go.

"Bye, Laura." I waved at her while closing the door to her office behind me. When I reached John, I wrapped an arm around his torso as his went around my shoulders in a comforting manner. He bent down and kissed the top of my head, making me smile.

We walked like that to the car, neither one of us wanting to let go of the other. We've been apart from each other long enough.

The car ride was a comfortable silence as I looked outside the window. I knew how to drive, I got my permit, but I think John just always wanted to drive me around, which I was more than okay with. I still haven't gone to school despite it being a few weeks since I've been released. Apparently, Laura had to give the okay for me to go back.

When John pulled up in front of the house, I knew that Tyler would be in there, like he had been during my all of my therapy sessions. Tyler always offered to drive me, but John always shoots him down. You can't exactly say no to your girlfriend's father.

As soon as I set foot into the house, I heard the sound of people talking and cards being flipped. When I walked into the living room I saw exactly what I expected to see, Tyler playing cards against Hunter while sitting on the floor. Rache appeared to be helping Hunter without actually being in the game. They were playing speed.

I quickly threw my bag into the ground and sat on Tyler's lap while planting a kiss on his cheek. He instantly grinned. As soon as I saw an opportunity for Tyler to get rid of 4 of the cards in his hands, I put the cards in their respective piles without giving Hunter any room to make a move.

Apparently those 5 cards had been the last of his deck and he placed the last card down on the other pile. We both slapped our hands down and yelled, "Speed!" We then proceeded to high five each other with matching grins on our faces. When we looked back at Hunter, he had thrown his cards on the ground and leaned back with a small pout on his face. Being the good sister that I am, I pointed at him and began laughing. Tyler joined in soon after as he wrapped one arm around my waist, the other going around my shoulder. The side of my face was lying on his chest and I could feel his heart going erratic. I smiled. It was nice to know that I affected him like that.

I turned my head to see Rache standing up, sticking her nose in the air. "I'm still a better helper in cards than her." I would've thought she was seriously angry if I didn't see the huge grin on her face.

Tyler let out a deep chuckle as he threw his head back. I watched as Rache's smile fell and her expression turned into one of confusion as she looked at me for answers. I just shrugged.

Once Tyler had calmed down enough to talk he said, "Even if Alex wasn't my girlfriend, I'd still pick her help over yours." Now she looked a bit angry as she stuck out her tongue at us and ran up the stairs. We all looked at each other before bursting out in laughter. We heard heavy footsteps running down the stairs before John ran into the room with a baseball bat in hand, ready to swing. He took one look at us, glaring a bit at Tyler's arms around me, and a look of confusion overtook his face.

He finally voiced his thoughts. "It thought that there was a bear or something in the house." It was more of a question than a statement.

"No, that was us laughing." Hunter said.

"You decided to bring a baseball bat to fight a bear?" I asked. John turned a shade of red before replying.

"It was the first thing I found." It was his turn to pout as he stalked back up the stairs.
