The second I stepped into the gym, I wanted to sink into the floor. There were boys running around aimlessly, boys who flirted with the girls, and boys who decided to mind their own business.
About ten seconds after I walked through the door, I was being hit on by multiple boys. That is until the coach came in and told all of us to sit on the black line that stretched the far side of the gym.
"Alright! In honor of our new student, we're gonna be starting a new sport today!" I could tell that he didn't have an inside voice. "The board wants me to teach y'all gymnastics!"
Crap. I couldn't even walk straight on an even sidewalk, how was I supposed to do this? I finally noticed all the gymnastics equipment that he had pulled out earlier.
I was panicking. Maybe it was because I knew basically nothing about gymnastics. Or maybe it was because I knew that the coach was gonna call on me even before he said "Come on Alex! Show us what you got!"
I stood up, horrified. As another show of how I shouldn't do gymnastics, I slipped on the floor and landed on my hand.
I didn't break it or anything. I was doing a single handed handstand. I waited for my elbow to give out and for me to crumble to the floor. 3 seconds. 5 seconds. 10 seconds. It didn't come. So I kicked my feet back, gracefully and stood upright again. Only to find that everyone in that class was staring at me. Even a certain Hunter Pilsen, who I hadn't noticed before.
I have no idea how I did that. I have never done gymnastics before, yet here I am wowing everyone with my clearly advanced skills. "What other moves do you know?" It was coach. Only this time he wasn't yelling, but staring at me in awe.
To answer his question, I took a few steps back and started running. Then before I knew it I was in the air, kicking forward, but his time my hands weren't on the ground. I landed with a bit of a natural stumble from the impact. I just did a front aerial.
It was like something clicked in my head. I was finally understanding something about myself. I just didn't know what. All I know is that when I did those two moves I felt... real. I felt the adrenaline pulsing through my veins. It felt amazing. But I was a bit scared as well, that the coach would ask me to do a move for him and I would have no idea how to do it. Thankfully the bell saved me, signaling that I was finally allowed to go home.
Soon after gathering my things and exiting the door to the parking lot, I realized that I hadn't driven myself to school. Hunter did, and knowing him, he'd want an explanation. And I didn't have one.
Hey sorry that this took so long to write, I promise that I'll get back on track with the updates.
So was this chapter as interesting as I said it would be?
