The Ride of My Life (an Ansel Elgort story)

Chapter 21

{If you don't read this, you might be confused. this chapter is happening at the same time as CH20, except in Ansel's POV. Sorry for all the cliffhangers lately! Enjoy!}

Ansel's POV

I was a little surprised when Lucy's dad called me yesterday. Why would they need my help?

Her dad had planned it out step by step, and told me exactly what I would need to do. It would start with ignoring her texts. Putting distance between us. Making her think something is up, but she wouldn't know enough to know our plan.

I go over to her house at the time her dad tells me to. He answers the door.

"Hello, sir. I'm Ansel. It's nice to finally meet you." I say and shake his hand.

He lets me in and I see Lucy. She looks simply gorgeous as usual. Man, she takes my breath away.

"Hey, you look very handsome." She says, accompanied with a huge smile.

"You look beautiful as always." I say. This isn't part of the plan, but it has to be said.

We hug and then she says, "Mom, Dad, this is my boyfriend, Ansel." My heart swells when she says that. I'm so happy that we're officially a couple.

"Oh, these are for you Mrs. Taylor." I say, and give her the flowers I brought.

"Thank you, Ansel! How thoughtful."

Her mother is so sweet, despite some of the things Lucy has told me about her.

Mr. and Mrs. Taylor leave a short time after, leaving us with money and a 'pizza order'. Lucy seems content with getting pizza but little does she know this is all part of the plan.

I check my phone to see if Lucy's dad texted telling me when to 'order'. He did.

I fake-dial the pizza place and fake-order. The whole time, I have Lucy fooled.

"It'll be here in 20 minutes." I say as I 'hang up' the fake call.

For the remainder of the time waiting, we have awkward small talk. I don't really see why all this distancing myself is necessary, but I have to listen to her dad.

The doorbell rings and Lucy makes me get the fake pizza. All of this is going directly as planned.
