Chapter 59

Ansel's POV

I get a text from Sophie saying that her and Lucy are leaving the mall. That leaves us about 10 more minutes.

Lucy's friend, Jordan, says she'll watch for the car while everyone else finishes getting ready. When she says the car is here, we all hide.

We hear the door open and prepare to explode in 'suprise's. Lucy turns the light on and we all know its time. We all jump up and scream "SURPRISE!"

The look on her face is complete shock. She's so cute.

"Oh my gosh!" She says, dropping her shopping bags and putting her hands over her mouth. Everyone is laughing at her reaction.

I take my chance and run up to her, hugging her and kissing her on the head.

"Happy birthday, babe." I say.

"Was this your plan?" She looks up at me.

"Well, kind of. We all had a part in it."

"Ansel, this is so sweet. I've never had a surprise party before."

"Well, then you definitely deserve it. I love you." I say, and kiss her. "Now, go mingle." I smile and push her towards the crowd of people. I live for making Lucy smile.

Lucy's POV

I am so shocked. Everyone I love is here. Well, not Daniel, but that's the only person I can think of.

All of my friends are here, even Josh. I'm surprised when he tells me Ansel invited him, but I'm happy to find out he now has a girlfriend. That's why Ansel didn't hesitate to invite him.

I realize that while I'm spending time talking to everyone, I am happy. I don't let myself think about everything bad that has happened, I just focus on everything I've been blessed with.

After a few hours of talking and eating cake, and appetizers, everyone gradually goes home.

I'm talking to Nicole, Brandon's girlfriend, when Ansel comes up to me.

"Hey, can I steal you for a second?" He touches my arm.

"Sure, excuse me." I smile at Nicole.

Ansel leads me up to my room where we can be alone.

"What's up?" I say, as he shuts the door.

"I wanted to give you your present."

He hands me a small box. I look up at him for permission to open it. "Go ahead." He smiles.

I open the box and it reveals a small ring. I pick it up and study it. On the inside of the ring, in tiny cursive letters, it says "Forever- AE&LT- 5/6/14"

"Its not much and I know it's cliche, but I knew it'd be perfect for you since you love things like this." He says while I'm looking at it, in awe. He takes my hands and looks into my eyes. "I just want you to know that you're the only girl I've ever loved this much. When I think of you I get butterflies. When I see you, my whole day gets brighter. I just can't imagine how much life would suck right now if I never would've met you. It's fate, Lucy. It's fate that we met. We're perfect for each other. I intend on marrying you. One day you will be Mrs. Lucy Elgort. I love you so much, Lucy."

He takes the ring out of the box and puts it on my finger.

Tears have leaked out of my eyes. I wrap my arms around his neck and hug him.

"That's the sweetest thing anyone has ever said to me. I love you so much. Thank you for making this the best birthday ever." I give him a big kiss on the lips and return to hugging him. I could hug him for eternity.
