Lucy's POV

The day is finally here. The start of a new chapter of my life.

Today is the day I move into my dorm.

I've lived with my parents forever and the longest time I've been away from both of them was when I was 5. They went on a vacation for their anniversary to Vegas. My brothers and I stayed with my aunt, and I cried every night from separation issues.

But I am not a five-year-old anymore. I am ready to be away from my family. College means more time with Ansel and more opportunities to meet new people. Maybe I'll actually find some good friends.

Either way, I won't be too far away from my family. But I'm also not the type to get homesick anymore.

My actual classes don't start for about a week, but this way I'll have time to get used to everything.

We don't have to move much. There's already a bed, mattress, and desk for me in my room, I just have to supply the junk.

I don't know my roommate yet, and I'm kind of glad. I like the mystery of not knowing who she is, what she's like, but it also scares the shit out of me.

My mom and Ansel helped me moved the stuff into my room. The other half is empty, so I guess I beat my roommate here.

After all of my stuff is unloaded and put in my room, my mom tells me she has to go. She has somewhere to be.

"Well, good luck, we'll keep in touch." She leans in and gives me an awkward hug and leaves the room.

"Do you want me to help unpack?" Ansel kindly offers.

"Yes, please." I say. It's not that I necessarily need help, I just don't want to be alone. I'm sure Ansel wouldn't leave me here by myself, though.

"Are you scared?" He asks while opening a box of clothes.

"Yes. What if I absolutely hate it? I mean, living in this tiny room with a roommate is going to suck. Plus having to share a bathroom with the whole floor? Now that I think about it, it sounds like hell and I should just get an apartment or something."

"Or you could move in with me."

"Ansel-"

"No, I'm serious. It would be beneficial for both of us. You could tutor me in math and I can help you with your music class."

I chuckle, "Ansel, you're perfectly fine at math. And I don't even have a music class!"

"Fine. But you gotta admit it would be amazing, right? And Cory wouldn't mind."

"I have to try this dorm out before I make any decisions. I may love it! But besides, my parents would never let me live with you. They'd be too scared I would get pregnant."

"They wouldn't have to know. And don't they know our relationship is more than sex? We haven't even had sex, and we don't have to because that's not what it's about. Our relationship is about love."

I wrap my arms around his waist and put my head on his chest.

"Ansel, I don't believe you."

"About what?" He sounds shocked.

"How are you a virgin? Most 20-year-old college guys have slept with more girls than I can count."

"I'm not like most guys." He kisses my head. "I would rather give a girl my love than my virginity."

"That is one reason I'm head-over-heels in love with you." I look up into his eyes and smile.

We have everything unpacked and we're making my bed when there's a knock at my door.

I look to Ansel, confused.

"Come in!" He yells. Man, he's fearless. What if it's a crazy guy with a gun?? Well, I guess crazy guys with guns don't just knock.

The door opens slightly and a head peaks through the crack.

"Is this Lucy's room?" The girl asks.

"Yeah, that's me."

"Oh, good. I thought I had the wrong room when I heard a guys voice!" She has opened the door fully and stepped in. She reaches her hand out for me to shake. "Hi, I'm your roommate, Kat."

I shake her hand. "Lucy. Oh, and this is Ansel." She waves and smiles. Ansel returns the gesture.

She is tall, but I guess everyone is tall to me. She has light blonde, wavy hair that is down to her shoulders.

She's wearing a hole-y sweater, even though it's summer. She matched it with a skirt that has an intricate tribal design.

After I'm done looking her over, forming a first impression, I turn to Ansel and smile.

"So, where are you from Kat?" I ask.

"I'm from upstate New York. I've always wanted to get out of there and go somewhere more south."

"I'm from New York too!" Ansel chimes in.

"Awesome! Lucy, where are you from?" She asks.

"Here." I laugh. "Not very interesting, I know."

"No, that's awesome! I'm glad one of us knows our way around here!" Kat says. I haven't decided yet what I think about her. It will take some time to get to know her, but I want to make sure she's not going to stab me in the back later on.
