Chapter 9

Ansel's POV

I'm driving on the highway toward my friend, Kyle's house. He's been my best friend since I moved here.

I pull into the driveway of his house he shares with two other dudes and I walk inside. They aren't surprised to see me come in without knocking.

As I thought, they're sitting on their asses playing video games. Yeah, I'll admit, video games are sometimes fun, but playing for hour after hour just hurts my head.

"Ayeeeee Ansel!" Robbie, one of the roommates says.

"Sup bro?" Zach, the other roommate says.

Zach and Robbie keep playing and Kyle stands up, knowing I'm here to talk to him.

"Hey, man. What's going on?" He asks.

"I need some.. Advice.. Or, help. I don't know. I just need to talk." I tell him. My thoughts are so scrambled and I can't think straight. I guess this is what Lucy has done to me.

Kyle and I walk into the kitchen and he grabs a soda out of the refrigerator. He offers me one and I decline. I sit on a bar stool and face him.

"So what's up?" He asks, again.

"You know the other day at the amusement park?"

"You mean when you ditched us and then wouldn't answer your damn phone? Yeah, I remember" he says.

"Well, the reason I ditched you was because I met this girl. Lucy. Lucy Taylor. And she's amazing. We went on a date and we're going on our second date in a little while." He rolls his eyes.

"Doesn't sound like you have a problem to me..?" Kyle says.

"I just don't know if I like her as a friend or as a girlfriend. She's made my brain go crazy. I can't think about her without getting butterflies."

"Dude, then she's definitely not just a friend. If you want my advice, I'd say go for it. Keep flirting and make sure you're clear with your intentions. And make sure you know hers too." Kyle informs me.

"And this is why you're my best friend." I tell him. We both smile.

My name is Ansel Elgort, and I officially like Lucy Taylor. God, I feel like I'm in middle school again.
