Lucy's POV

It's been three days since my mom had surgery. I haven't seen much change in her, but then again people never tell me anything.

I haven't been going to classes because I've been too distracted.

My dad told me that they're going to check for any brain activity today. If they find some, there's still hope. If there isn't any, they'll declare her brain dead, and therefore, I won't have a mother anymore.

My dad decided to tell Daniel. Daniel said he can't come home unless she passes away. Needless to say, I hope Daniel does not come home.

I've been staying at home instead of the dorm. What's the point of staying in the dorm? I need to be with my family.

My dad, Brandon and I all go to the hospital together. We go to a conference room where the doctor is supposed to share the test results. We sit at a table, all joining hands and silently praying.

"You all know that whatever happens, we will get through it. Together." My dad says. Brandon and I nod.

The doctor comes in after a while, with some papers in hand.

He greets us and sits down at the other side of the table.

"As you are aware, we tested for brain activity this morning. I am pleased to tell you that she has made remarkable recovery since we last tested. Since she has shown more signs of recovery, we are going to try more medicines to wake her up. I am really confident she will be able to get through this. The team of neurologists here, including myself, are trying our hardest to decide what will work."

My dad puts his hands over his mouth.

This is a miracle.

After discussing more with the doctor, Brandon and I go home. I change my clothes and go right to my car. I have to tell Ansel this news.

When I get to their apartment, I don't knock. I just go in. Ansel told me I don't have to knock anymore.

I see a blonde girl sitting on the couch flipping through television channels.

"Um, hello?" I say.

"Hey, what's up?" Cory says, coming into the room.

I raise an eyebrow at him.

"Oh, this is Jessica."

"Didn't work out with Kat?"

"Nah, it's all good though."

I nod and go back to Ansel's room. The door is open and I see he's laying on his bed, shirtless.

"Hey, babe, are you okay?" He says putting his phone away and sitting up.

"More than okay. I have good news."

"Spill!"

"They think my mom is going to make it through this! They're going to try to wake her up."

"Wow, that's awesome! I'm so happy to hear that." He stands up and hugs me. My head is pressed against his chest and I can feel his steady heartbeat.

"I love you." I say

"I love you more."

Even though I know it's not true, I don't reject it. I just smile and close my eyes, still wrapped in his arms.

{Hey! Y'all should follow me on twitter- @anselplease - so I can get to know you!}
