Lucy's POV
After what seems like forever, Steven gets home. It's 2 o'clock, which is actually earlier than I expected.
"Thank you for watching her." He hands me $35.
"Wow, thanks." He's a very generous person.
"I thought since you'll be off to college soon, I'd help you out a bit." He smiles. "Rachel and I decided that we don't like being away from Lilly every day, so we're going to work out a schedule where one of us will be home every day. It'll be the best situation since you won't be available due to school."
This makes me somewhat relieved. I hate to admit it, but this isn't the way I want to spend the rest of my summer.
"Oh, alright. Well, whenever you need me, just call me." I smile.
"We definitely will."
"Bye, Lilly! Bye, Steven." I go out the door.
I'm jobless, once again.
I go home. My mom is sitting on the back deck reading a magazine.
"Hey, Mom." I say.
"How do you like your job?" She doesn't look up from her magazine.
"Well, I'm unemployed now. Turns out they don't need me as much as they thought."
"That stinks. Better luck next time." She says. I can tell she lost interest in what I was saying before I even opened my mouth.
"Where's Dad?" I ask.
"Oh, he had to go on a trip, it was an emergency apparently. He'll be back in a few days." That's what she's been telling me my whole life. Oh, it's just a few days! Yeah, right. It turns into a few weeks, then sometimes even a few months. Ugh, the struggles of a pilot's daughter. She continues, "Also, not to rain any more on your parade, but you know Daniel has to leave in a few days, right?" See, this is what I mean when I say she tries to make my life HELL.
I just make an annoyed noise and stomp to my room.
I call Ansel, knowing he's the only thing that can make my day better.
"Hey, it's me." I say when he answers.
"Hello, Lucy. What's up?"
"Nothing, what are you doing?"
"I'm watching Cory move the rest of his stuff in. You should come over and meet him." I hear someone talking in the background.
"Okay, I'll be over in a little bit."
Once we hang up I grab my purse and keys and go out of my room. I pass Daniel in the hallway and he says, "Your boyfriend stopped by earlier."
That confirms that it was Ansel's car that I saw. I wonder why he was here, and why he didn't mention anything?

I get to Ansel's apartment and knock. He answers shortly after and welcomes me in. I give him a kiss.
We walk into the living room and there's a guy sitting on the ground, emptying a box of CDs and DVDs. I'm guessing its Cory.
"Cory, Lucy. Lucy, Cory." Ansel says. Cory looks up and somewhat waves to me.
"Hello, Lucy. Wow Ansel, I thought you were exaggerating about her beauty." He smiles and I blush. Ansel puts his arm around me.
"Don't get any ideas. She's mine." He laughs. Protective Ansel is the cutest type of Ansel.
After a while of contemplating on where to go, we decide to take a walk through the city. I told Ansel I wanted to talk to him, and he said he wanted to go somewhere where we would be alone.
We stop at an ice cream place about a block from Ansel's apartment. He gets a strawberry milkshake and I get a chocolate one.
We continue walking on the sidewalk, going deeper into the city. We hold hands and sip our milkshakes.
"So, Daniel said you stopped by."
"Yeah, you weren't home so I left. I didn't know about your babysitting job."
"Well, it was a one-time thing. They're working out a schedule so they won't need a babysitter."
"Oh. Was that the dad that was leaving?" He asks. I know he already knows the answer.
"Umm, no. That's my neighbors' son. He was going to work."
"So why were you there if he was? Or was he the one you were babysitting?" I can see jealousy building up in him and he doesn't even know what's going on.
I give him an annoyed look. "No, his little sister. I had to be there to watch her. Look, Josh is young, he's handsome, he's funny. But he doesn't at all compare to you." I turn to him, "I know you're probably thinking I'm going to fall in love with him and it'll be like a fairy tale and I'll forget about you, but just trust me. There's nobody in the world I could love more than you. And I just wanted to put that out there before you jumped to any conclusions about Josh. He's not a threat to you."
Ansel leans in and kisses me. "I trust you. And I'm glad we are able to work things out before any problems even start." He smiles.
Ansel makes me feel like him and I could get married tomorrow and happily be together the rest of our lives. He makes my life so much happier and easier.
