I love weekends because I love sleeping in. I end up sleeping until 9:30. That's late compared to what time I get up for school. I make myself breakfast and get ready for the day. I decide to wear a blue t-shirt and some jean shorts. While I wait I pull out my phone. I have 3 texts from Mason. He wants to hangout today and apologize. I don't know if I was ready to accept his apology and I know if I did we would end up fighting again because I'm hanging out with Jacob today. At 11:56 the doorbell rings. I put on my tennis shoes and run to the door. Jacob is standing at the door with a rose.
"Hey," he says handing me the rose.
"Hi," I say blushing.
He drives off the main road into the woods.
"Where are we going?" I ask.
"You'll see," he replies a grin spreading on his face.
He stops the car at what looks like a trail head. Now I see why he wanted me to wear tennis shoes. We both get out of the car. He opens the back of the car and grabs a basket.
"What's that for?" I ask.
"We are going on a picnic," he says.
We follow the trail for about a mile. It's all uphill. Finally the trail opens up into a wide open area. We are so high up and the view from here is amazing. Jacob opens up the picnic basket and pulls out a blanket. He lays down the blanket and motions for me to sit. He pulls out two peanut butter sandwiches and two juice boxes. He hands me one of each.
"Thanks," I say.
"So what has happened since camp other than you getting a boyfriend?" he asks.
"Nothing really and I don't have a boyfriend. Well not anymore that is."
"Oh."
"Yeah. What about you. How have you been?" I ask.
He tells me about his parents told him they were getting divorced. He was never really close to his dad. Apparently he was a drunk. He decided to live with his mom. His mom moved here to get away from his dad.
We eat our peanut butter sandwiches while we remember camp. We talk about all the fun we had.
"I miss it," I confess.
"Yeah me too," he says.
After a moment of silence he asks,"Do you still have feelings for me?"
"I think so," I say looking at the ground.
He lifts my chin so I'm looking at him. He is right in front of me. He tucks a strand of hair behind my ear and then his lips are on mine. I know I should probably push him away, but instead I pull him closer to me. When the kiss ends he says,"Well I know I'm still in love with you."
We stay talking until the sun begins to set. The sunset is beautiful. I begins to get cold and Jacob notices.
"Here," he says draping his sweatshirt over my arms.
"Thanks," I say as I slide my arms into his sweatshirt.
He puts his arm around me and pulls me closer to him. I rest my head in his shoulder and we watch the sunset.
"How are we going to get back to the car if we can't see?" I ask.
"Lucky for you I was smart enough to bring a flashlight," he says.
"Can we stay a little longer?" I ask.
"Sure," he says.
I text my mom so she doesn't worry about me. Then Jacob and I just lay there stargazing, just like we used to at camp. After a while we head back to his car; it's getting late. The way down was difficult with only a flashlight, but we made it.
When we get to my house we say goodnight. He kisses me on the cheek and I head inside. I had forgotten how romantic Jacob is.
