The next day is Monday. The day starts with Mason picking me up for school.
"Um is it okay if I still pick you up for school?" he asks when I walk outside.
"Yeah," I say. I hope he realizes he just might not be bringing me home everyday.
In my first class my upper right side begins to hurt. I ignore it and continue on with my day. As the day goes on it begins to hurt more and more. By art the pain has moved to my lower right side. I sit in my seat and lay my head on the desk. The pain is terrible.
"Are you okay?" asks Mason when he takes his seat.
"No," is all I can get out.
"What's wrong?" he asks sounding very worried.
"My side hurts really bad," I say, "Don't worry I will be fine."
Class begins before he can say anything else. As class goes on my side continues to hurt.
About halfway through class Mason whispers to me, "I can't watch you sit here in pain any longer."
Then he raises his hand. When the teacher calls on him he says, "Emily isn't feeling well. Can I take her to the school nurse?"
The teacher agrees and we leave the classroom.
"It hurts more with every step," I tell him.
When we get to the nurses office the nurse tells me I should call my parents and lay down while I wait for them to pick me up. I know better then to call my parents. They are both at work and can't leave to pick me up. I go to lay down on the bed they have in the nurses office and Mason follows.
"Boy, you have to go back to class now," says the nurse.
"Will you be okay?" he asks.
"Yeah, go to class. I will see you at the end if the day," I say.
Then he leaves and turns off the lights on his way out.
I lay there trying to sleep but the pain won't let me. I hear the bell meaning the last period is about to start. I hear my phone go off and I pull it out.
I have a new text from Jacob:
Where are you?
I text back:
My side hurts really bad. I'm in the nurses office.
I decide since I can't sleep I should figure out what's going on with me. I search what it means when your side hurts on the internet. When I think I've figured out what I have the bell rings. A couple minutes later Mason comes into the room followed by Jacob.
"How are you feeling?" asks Mason.
"I think I have appendicitis," I say.
[Appendicitis is when your appendix begins to hurt and it has to be removed before it ruptures.]
