The next day is Monday. When I wake up I text Jacob:
Hey I need to talk to you. Meet me at the trophy case before school?
I start to get ready for school. I am really dreading today. I hear my phone go off. It's a text from Jacob:
Sure. See you then.
Ugh I'm not looking forward to this.
Mason picks me up for school. I sit in the passenger seat twiddling my thumbs. I'm afraid of how Jacob will react.
"Are you okay?" Mason asks. He knows me so well.
"Yeah. I just have to tell Jacob that I make my decision today," I say.
"It will be okay. We will go get ice cream after school if it makes you feel better," he says cracking a smile.
"Thanks," I say.
We get to school and I head to the trophy case. Jacob is already here.
"Hey," he says.
"Hi," I say.
"What's up?" he asks smiling. I don't know how to start.
"You will always have a special place in my heart. You were my first love but..." He cuts me off as the smile fades from his face, "But you choose him don't you?"
I just nod my head. Jacob simply turns around and walks away. I let him go.
The day flies by. Jacob keeps his back to me during spanish. After school I head to my locker and get what I need. When I turn around I see Jacob and Mason standing face to face down the hallway. I know this can't be good. I run over to them. Jacob's hand clenches into a fist. "No!" I yell as I jump in front of Mason. The fist that was meant to hit Mason hits me instead. I begin to see black dots. I hear my body hit the ground right before everything goes black.
