I wake up on my couch surrounded by my family and Mason.
"Hey," Max says.
"Hi," I say.
I talk to my family for awhile. Finally I ask for them to give Mason and me a moment alone. I guess they know about us now.
"What happened?" I ask once my family is gone.
"I was heading to your locker when Jacob saw me. He was yelling at my for stealing his girl. When I tried walking away he pulled me back. That's when he through the punch. You jumped in front of me and his fist hit you right in the head. It knocked you out cold," he tells me while looking at the ground.
"Are you okay?" I ask.
"No I'm not okay! This is all my fault. This never would have have happened if it wasn't for me. You shouldn't have jumped in front of me like that. Seeing you laying there on the ground and knowing it was my fault was the worst feeling ever. You can't do stuff like that Emily!" he yells.
"I'm sorry. I saw him clench his fist. I couldn't just stand there and watch him punch you! My first instinct was to jump in front of you."
"Promise you won't do something like that again?"
"I promise," I say.
I grab his neck and pull his lips down on mine.
"I love you," he whispers.
"I love you too," I say.
