"Simon..." Bram whispered I must have fallen asleep watching TV with him late last night. My vision was blurry as I slowly opened my eyes. "You snore," he teased, shaking me awake. "Si..." he wheezed, rubbing his eye. "You need to get up -- I know I shouldn't have but I think your mom called, and I saw it -- I didn't pick it up or anything but I think she's worried," he gulped.
"U-H?" I wasn't completely awake.
"It's almost nine! You-" he coughed, "need to get home," I sprang up, suddenly awake. Even without any type of coffee in my system. I picked up my cell phone and saw a voicemail from my mother. She must have been worried. Didn't she see my note? I turned up the volume, and played the voicemail out loud, holding the cell phone up.
"Hey, Si! It's me, got your letter and stay as long as you need, tell Bram we hope he gets better -- love you!" the voice mail ended. Bram grinned.
"You left a note? That's so cute!" he giggled, clearing his throat. "That was sweet of your mom, tell her I'll work on getting better," he laughed. He coughed. Again. I got up to find Bram some sort of cough medicine. I searched through the kitchen cabinets and drawers.
"The medicine should be in the bathroom," Bram whispered laying back on the couch, turning on the TV -- to the news. He grunted, changing the channel. I didn't blame him, everything on the news was too upsetting for me to watch. Good thing I didn't have to sit uncomfortably with him watching the news. Phew.
"Do you like eggs?" I blurted, searching his fridge. He had half a dozen eggs, a carton of milk and a bunch of bagels. Not too much food. I grunted, moving food around wondering if I could put ketchup on eggs. Bram smiled looking in my direction.
"With Oreos?" he grinned, I blushed. Noticing how much I had been blushing today. What was up with me? I tried to ignore the burning feeling on my cheeks.
"Yep!" I laughed, I grabbed three eggs and a frying pan getting to work on the best breakfast Bram would ever have.
"This tastes so good, Si," he smiled, wrapping his blanket around his hips. I laughed, looking at his almost finished plate. Bram picked up the fork and held his hand a few inches under it. He fed me a few forkfuls of eggs.
"I guess I can cook," I shrugged. He punched me in the chest.
"You guess? I'll have to marry you just to keep this good food around," he joked. I laughed nervously. Now that I think about it, it wouldn't be too bad if he married me just because I could cook. Heck, we'd be married so that's a positive...
"You wish!" I grinned, picking up his plate and walking over to the sink to start cleaning it. I looked under the sink for some sort of dish soap. He had some pink soap that looked like it could work. I poured a glob of it onto the plate, scrubbing the crumbs away. I didn't notice Bram was behind me until a pair of arms wrapped around my waist. I held in a silent scream.
"Si, you don't have to do the dishes," Bram whispered, he was so close I could feel his eyelashes on my neck as he blinked. I giggled, picking up a fork and dunking it in soapy water. I shook my head.
"I know I don't have to, but I want to," I found a towel to dry my hands, doing the dishes at home I loathed. Doing them here wasn't so bad. Bram smiled, kissing my cheek and thanking me again for all I did.
As I drove away in my car I couldn't help feel good about myself. I beamed glancing at the rearview mirror. Bram was waving from the downstairs window. I waved back, enjoying the feeling in my chest. The bahdum-bahdum feeling in my heart I got around him was coming back.
