Monday was hard. Bram was out absent due to his sickness and I was bored. During classes, I could still text him, however, and he responded to each one of my texts. Even though I told him he should be sleeping off his sickness.

SIMON: it's so boring here w/ out you
BRAM: aw
SIMON: I'm suriys its torture w/ out you
BRAM: b.b. you're cute as frick but you need to auto correct
SIMON: sorry Mr.English Major
BRAM: that you capitalize?
SIMON: that you punctuate
BRAM: touché...

I grinned, tossing my phone in my jacket pocket. I set one foot in front of the other and started heading to my class. The one class I had with just Nick and Abby.

"Hey man," Nick waved at me as I sat down next to him. Science was the one class Nick and I actually talked one-on-one. I watched as Nick grinned watching Abby from the corner of his eye. Abby was seated across the room, but that didn't stop her from texting him.

I felt bad for them, our Science teacher sat guys on one side of the room and girls on the other. We had one genderfluid kid in our class, who was very pissed with the setup. I glanced over at Nick who was nervously doodling on the wooden crevice on our table.

"Hey," I addressed him when I noticed he had started paying attention to me. He turned his head away from Abby to give me his full attention. I grabbed my notes from last class and tossed it to him. He missed the class due to his big soccer tournament, which his team won. Obviously.

"Thanks," he grinned, tossing the paper on the table and scrambling to get the note sheet finished before the teacher saw. I tried to position my arm so that our teacher didn't see the whole "copy and paste" situation.

I gulped as the bell rang and our teacher announced the class period as a free one. That we were going to watch a movie. I sighed, grateful. I took out my cell phone, dimmed the screen, and texted Bram the rest of the class period.

SIMON: free class what are you doing?

BRAM: watching my Airborne dissolve...

"My eyes!" Abby whined as we walked outside to my car. My eyes didn't focus on the brightness of the day. I spent so many hours inside, and I almost didn't remember what it felt like outside. I closed my eyes, letting the sun hit my face. I opened my eyes again, squinting. Was there a screen dimmer for the outside world? I rubbed at my sore eyes, I could feel my heart sinking as I remembered Bram wouldn't be in the car for the ride home.

I fell back behind Nick and Abby, smiling as Nick took Abby's hand in his. They were both grinning. I didn't know what was brighter -- their smiles or the sun. I glanced up, Leah was leaning on the passenger door of my car, looking down at her phone and beaming. I laughed at her, earning me a friendly glare, and tossed her my keys so she could unlock the door. Leah hopped in front, and Abby in Nick hopped in back. Abby gave Nick a kiss. Leah made eye contact with me, signaling for me to check my phone.

LEAH: they are so cute together...

LEAH: Just like SOME couple I know... ;)

I laughed, blushing down at my phone. I started the car and gripped the steering wheel, checking the mirrors and all the other fun things that the designated driver had to do. I was happy to be back in a routine with my friends but I was pretty annoyed I couldn't pass Bram's house on the way home.
