Chapter 24 - The Forest of Death

All the remaining Genin stood in front of me. Many trembling with fear.

"Welcome to Second Chunin Exam. This is the 44th battle training zone. They call it the forest of death and soon you'll find out why", Anko announces.

Naruto snorts and mocks, "'They call it the forest of death and soon you'll find out why'. You're not going to scare me away! I'm not scared of anything! Believe it!"

Naruto... Wrong time.

"So, it looks like we got ourselves a tough guy. The tough guys usually don't make it. I can't wait to see you squirm", she grins sadistically.

"Ha! You think that scares me?" Naruto exclaims.

"You're spirited... Kids like you are easily killed. Spraying red blood is what I love", she says evilly.

Anko throws a kunai past Naruto, barely skimming his cheek. She appears right next to him and licks the dripping blood.

A woman from the Hidden Grass walks to Anko and hands the kunai back with her... Tongue. Ew. It's all slimy and gross and long.

"Here's your kunai", she says, her voice raspy and snakelike. Is she human?

"Why thank you", Anko replies and grabs the kunai. I shudder slightly. It's saliva was on that.

"No problem. I just get so excited when I see blood", she/it replies.

"Seems like we have a bunch of blood thirsty ones in this test. This should be interesting. Now, before we start the test, there's something we need to hand out."

Anko takes out a pile of forms and hands them out.

"You must sign these agreement forms. There will be some deaths during the test. If you don't sign these, you won't be able to participate in this test. If you do, I will be responsible for the deaths. I will explain the test, then, you will fill out the forms and sign in over there. This test is a survival test. Around the arena, there are 44 gates. There's a river and a tower in the middle. It's about 10 kilometers from the gate to the tower. This test is simple. You must deliver 2 different scrolls to the tower: a Heaven and an Earth Scroll. Half will get a Heaven scroll. The other half will get an Earth scroll. To pass the test, you must take a scroll from another team, manage to keep both scrolls, and deliver them to the tower. There are no rules. Kill or be killed. You have a five day limit", she explains in depth.

"Five days?!" Choji panicks, "What about dinner?!"

"You're on your own. There's food in the forest, just be careful. Now, I will talk about what will disqualify you. First, you have to deliver both scrolls to the tower within the 5 days time limit. Second, those who lose a teammate or have them killed, cannot continue. Third, don't look inside the scroll until you get to the tower. You cannot quit in the middle. You must continue throughout the whole Exam", she explains even further.

"What happens if you open the scroll?" asks Naruto.

"It'll be a surprise for whoever does. A Chunin must be able to deliver top-secret documents and be trusted to not look at them. The test will show how trust worthy you are. Now, that's it. Exchange you forms for a scroll. Then, choose a gate and get ready to start. Oh, a word of advice: don't die."

By the end of the explainations, I was worrying for my teammates. I can't really do much. I'm only going to be in there to make sure that no outside forces will interfere. Not really managing deaths.

Before Anko starts the exam, I find my team.

"Hey Rina!" screams Naruto, "What are you doing here?"
