February 20th, 1993
I waited on Kurts front steps with a gift under my arm and Rosie by my side. I stroked her hand as we waited for someone to come to the door.

I was met by Courtney. She scrunched her nose up. "Hello, Dave. Ill take the gift." She scowled, snatching the box from my grip. "Bitch." I muttered, moving inside and taking rosies hand.

The house was crowded with faces I recognized. Chris Cornell, Michael Stipe, Danny, everyone. People know what happened. People hate me for it.

I hate me too.

"I'm getting a drink." Rosie said. I sniked and kissed her pink lips. I then stood around awkwardly. "Hey, buddy." Kurt said from behind me. I spun around. "Ah, hey Kurt. How are you, man? Happy birthday." I said.

"Thanks. I've been ok." He said cooly, taking a sip of his beer. "And how is um.. Julia?" He smiled sadly. "Courtney and I hear her cry every night." My heart shattered. He licked his lips. "You didn't here this from me, got it?" I nodded.

"So, she's here?" Krists voice asked. I turned to face him. I nodded shamefully. I'm just a spectacle now. "Are you two a thing?" "Yeah, she lives with me now." I said nervously. He clenched his jaw. "Nice."

I felt uncomfortable as they ganged up on me. Who am I to judge. I deserve it. They both eventually went their own ways. "You alright, baby?" Rosie asked, appearing by my side. I smiled and nodded before kissing her.

She nearly left me once i told her everything. She then realized I had chosen her over Jules. I don't really know why I didn't fight for her. I let her walk out on me. I should've fought, but I choose Rosie.

I don't know how I feel about my decision yet, but I know I love her.

"Ok, everyone get in the living room! Kurts opening presents!" Courtneys distinctive voice shrilled. We all gathered into the area. Kurt was sitting in a wooden chair. He seemed uncomfortable, yet flattered about so many people coming out to celebrate.

I then saw her, beside Kurt. She was wearing a some black high waisted shorts and a Hawaiian shirt tucked in to the shorts.
Her blonde hair was grown out long. It cascaded down her back. She had minimal makeup on her face.

She caught me staring. My face heated up. I quickly looked away. She handed the gifts to Kurt. He would faintly smile and whisper a "thank you" to her. Pretty soon, various types of wrapping papers and ribbons littered the wooden floor.

"Guys, I seriously appreciate this. Thank you so much." Kurt spoke, blushing. Hair hung in his face. Everyone clapped for him. "Court, I'm gonna go get the cake." Jules said. Courtney nodded and smirked.

She disappeared into the kitchen. A short few seconds later, then came back out, a cake with white frosting and icing in blue that spelled out "happy birthday Kurt!" 5 lit candles were poking out of the top.

The orange flames reflected in her ocean blue eyes. "Ok, Kurt. Make a wish." She grinned, setting it down on the coffee table in front of him. He smiled and gave her a hug.

After a few seconds, he blew out the candles. Claps and cheers filled the room. Kurt sliced the cake for everyone, putting thick slabs of it onto paper plates.

Frances dug her tiny hands into the cake. Everyone laughed and snapped pictures of her. I smiled and squeezed Rosies hand. Julia had a firey gaze fixed on us. She noticed that I saw it. She quickly returned to Pat.

I frowned and looked down to the floor.

Why did I fuck things up so badly?
