The look of confusion is a look I do not like. It can mean so many things in so little thoughts. Although he did not frown, I can tell by his eyes (partially because it happens to Max aswell) that he is thinking about what to say. His mouth hovers in shapes of words, but nothing comes out until he takes a few moments to think.

"And, why is there a Mark of Disgrace upon my son?"

Well sir, your son was being a dick so I slapped him.

"We had an argument and I didn't know that slapping him was the result of a Mark of Disgrace."

He stares at me.

"Please sir, I didn't mean to. I feel guilty, Max forgives me, but I can't forgive myself."

"Young Lady, I've come across many well, what we like to call 'MoD's' and I'm pretty sure that I can let this slip."

"Really?" I ask, just in case he's using sarcasm although it's unlikely because of the unhumorous kind of person he is.

"Well, yes. Only because it was a misunderstanding, not because it's my son."

"Thank you, Sir!" I lean forward and hug him tightly, and he does the same thing Max does. He sniffs into my hair, taking in my scent.

"Sia, you can call me Chandler, you know?"

"Thank you for this Chandler!" I cheer in his ear.

"No problem." He chuckles. "You're just like my wife, you know that?"

"Really?" I smile because I'm delighted to have this off my case.

"Yes, Claudia was just like you." He smiles back at me.

"Was?"

"Was." He turns around a picture frame facing him on his desk, and towards me I see an elegant woman in the arms of Chandler himself. He looks much happier then. He looks like a guy that would smile a lot just for the sake of it. And the woman, she looks graceful with long dark hair in a fine braided bun. Her eyes are a bronze colour, as if they could light up anything they looked at.

"That's her before Maxwell was born." He stares at the frame. "She died having Max."

Oh.

Many thoughts ran past me but the one in particular was, does Chandler pretend to be mean when really he's just lost something he can't replace?

"She wasn't wolf nor human. She was a race of Demigod. She was daughter of one of the gods, but was neglected by him. Artemis, which I hope you know is Goddess of the Moon and Wildlife, took her in. Artemis raised her. Then mated her with me at the age of 16."

"Which ever blood line she had," He continues "She couldn't take a wolf child."

"Does that mean that same blood line runs in Max?"

"Yes, but we suspect that it shouldn't happen again. As generations go down the blood of a demigod stops."

"Do you miss her?"

"Everday." He replies. "Max never really grew up with a female role model,  and I was always a little harsh on him. I don't want him to think I'm disappointed in him, being the father I was, because I'm very proud of him." He looks up at me "And Happy that his mate is everything he needs. "

Chandler really opened up to me, and I felt bad that I couldn't open up to him. He told me stories about Claudia, and things he regrets, even stuff he blames himself for. It made me feel like he really trusted me, only having met me a few hours before.

When I arrived back at the pack house they all sat in the lounge, waiting anxiously like family members in a hospital waiting to find out if the patient is okay. Oliver was the first to speak, taking the time as they all stared at me he dropped the question.

"W-what did he say?" His lips quivered slightly .

"That he can let it slip." I smile and Max rises from his seat.

"Oh my god, I love you." Max rises from his seat and rushes over to me, his arms holding my head tightly as my chin rests on his shoulder.

"What did he say, like over all, about you and the thing?" Kevins voice appears, I didn't even see him there.

"He was really fond of me for some reason."

"Well of course he was," Max smiles kissing my forehead lightly.

"What do you mean 'of course'?" I ask him, locking eyes.

"He's been waiting all my life for me to find my mate, and you're here. I'm even surprised he didn't want to come back with you."

"So we don't need to worry about it then?" Uriah interrupts "The Mark?"

"No, He's going to get off our case." I smile.

"Then I guess we can get this Drea stuff sorted." He proposes.

That night when everyone had gone upstairs to sleep, Max and I laid outside on the deck.

We star gazed for hours, under the night sky. He told me a tale of Artemis and her wolves. That once there were only humans and wolves, and she shot a bow so high into the sky that it hit the moon and blinded light. And by the time the light came back, Humans and Wolves had morphed into something together. A werewolf.

"Chandler told me about her." I told him.

"Who? Artemis?" He turned his head towards mine and his eyes glowed softly.

"Your mother."

His eyes lost a little glow, and I felt as if the moonlight dimmed a little.

"I wish I knew her." He said.

"She sounded lovely." I whisper.

"I can hear her sometimes, in my head." He openly tells me. "She gives me advice."

"Huh?"

"She was a demigod, children of the gods can communicate with their children despite death. There's rules, its complicated. She's only allowed to tell me few things, but I want to talk to her fully."

"Does Chandler know?"

"Just Oliver. And you."

"What does she say?"

"She gives me advice," He pauses "It's different everytime. "

"Chandler seems empty without her."

"He always has, and he always will." Max lowers his lips down to my noes "That's what happens when you loose your mate."
