Virgil sat in his room, staring at the ceiling, trying to think of something to think about, anything to keep his mind occupied from sleep. But his thoughts wandered to the two boys he met earlier that day.
The tall boy remembered watching the smaller walk in and sit on a bench, swinging his legs. His eyes were wide enough to be seen from the other bench Virgil was sitting on. They were blue crystals, catching the light perfectly. Virgil stared at the boy's eyes, the happy-go-lucky boy not paying attention, until another male came over to him. Virgil could tell from how they looked at each other, like they would make themselves sick on love.
The other boy wasn't that bad looking either, though arrogance hung onto him like a life line, it seemed he would worship his soulmate. His face angular and cheerful, a similar happy to the one seen on his soulmate's. No wonder they were happy, they had found each other early, where Virgil knew he wouldn't find his soulmate soon, if at all.
It was because he didn't talk to people. Or maybe he just didn't have one. Virgil sank deeper into his hoodie at that thought, pulling it around his torso tightly. He went over the idea, rechecking the possibility that it was true, using all his "reasoning", and sighing in defeat again.
Virgil took a deep breathe, then decided to practice doing gymnastics in the grass, continuing his practice, until he came in contact with some object that wasn't there before. After regaining his footing and succeeding in not making a bigger fool of himself, he started to apologize to the person he hit in the face during his cart wheel.
"Oh my god, are you okay?" Virgil asked, his voice cracking.
"No, my face hurts really ba, and I'm holding in tears." The happy boy said blatantly. And Virgil just realized he hit the cutest boy he had ever seen in the face. How was he going to pay for that one?
"I'm really sorry. I can't afford to pay for the hotdog, but I'll do it anyway to stop you from crying." Virgil's mouth seemed to move on it's own, his bangs bouncing when he flinched at his own words. Soon he seemed to understand, though still in a small state of confusion. We're these two in fact not soulmate, and we're just dating? It was rare, but not unheard of, but why start so early?
They started trying to lie to each other unsuccessful, Virgil started to panic, his breath hitched, so he started doing his counting exercise, until the boy near the small one said something. "But, that's impossible, we're soulmates." The muscular boy tried to reason, turning to Virgil. "My jacket is brown." The boy said as fast as he could, scaring himself. "I meant to say blue." His eyes darted around, fear evident.
"I guess we're soulmates." Virgil mumbled, finally calm again.
"Well, it's nice to meet you kiddo, I'm Patton, this is Roman." The smallest greeted, trying to pull off a convincing smile.
"I'm Virgil." The emo boy greeted, forcing an easy smile on his face.
Virgil rubbed his eyes at the memory, hoping it would possibly get rid of the events, or simply erase the dream come true. After the whole introduction, Virgil had decided to try and lie to them.
"I'm sorry, but I really don't want to make this awkward for all of us, so I'll go and never make contact with either of you again." Virgil remarked, turning around until he realized what he said, and by then Roman had taken a hold on the taller, pulling him back.
It was just so stupid. Why did the universe make this so hard on him? If he had just said "bye." Instead of trying to say, "I have to go." He would be done with it, but no, now he had soulmates who knew.
"Why are you running away from us?" Roman asked in a demanding tone.
"I don't deserve you. You'll be much happier without me. You don't need another person in your lives. I won't be fine without a soulmate but that's how life goes for me. I have more problems than I'm worth." Virgil sighed, fully aware of what was poring out of his mouth. He gave up on lying.
Patton threw himself on the larger male before Roman could comprehend the words. "You deserve every bit of love we will give to you and more! You're our third half! We can't abandon you because you have some issues. We all have issues, you aren't one of them." Patton burst the poor boy's eardrums. After a few more minutes they gave each other their phone numbers.
Virgil turned over in his bed, face in the pillow, screaming into it. What had he done? He just made two beautiful people pause their relationship to take care of him. Why couldn't he just stop ruining everything?
