MARIA
11:53 am; Monday- Midtown HighschoolThere he was.
Tall.
Handsome.
Blond.
Kade Austin.
He walked forward toward the rectangular lunch table. Flash said something to him jokingly once he reached the table, but I wasn't sure what it was. I was too focused on the smiling Kade, who had teeth shiner than a white pearl.
How could any male be so beauti-
"MARIA!"
My eyes suddenly went back to focus on the screaming Ashtyn right in front of me. Like usual, she was creating a scene while throwing her hands in the air trying to get my attention.
"Uh-yes? You were saying?" I asked, blinking rapidly at her and acting as if I had a clue what she was talking about. She groaned and rolled her eyes, clearly, she knew I had no clue.
"I was talking about science...but you were too focused on Kade," she said, teasing me. I rolled my eyes annoyed as she made goo-goo eyes taunting me.
"No, I wasn't," I lied smoothly. I would never admit my feelings for Kade, not even to my own best friend.
"Mhm sure," she teased, "but I don't understand why on earth you would want someone like Kade when you're Tony Stark's daughter! You could have anyone you wanted!" she continued, way too loudly. It triggered me that she still thought I liked Kade even after telling her I clearly don't.
That's the thing about being best friends with Ashtyn.
No, not the fact she never seems to quiet down or shut up, but the fact she was obsessed with the Avengers. And no, she isn't a 'fake' friend that's using me to get to the Avengers, especially since she knew me before she found out I was a Stark, but she seems to think it's great being Tony Stark's daughter.
It's honestly not the greatest.
Don't get me wrong, I love my dad, but he's Tony Stark. I don't try hiding it from anyone since it would be easy to find out, but most people don't know unless you happen to know my last name.
The fact my dad is both a famous billionaire and Ironman makes it sort of hard for me. I have to be more cautious and live a non-normal life. But my dad makes it feel like he's more locking me away than protecting me.
"What do you mean? You think my dad would hire someone to love me?" I asked, offering my usual sarcasm. She just took a huge bite of her burger, forgetting to swallow while she talked.
Ashtyn shook her head not understanding my sarcastic comment, "No, no, no. I mean, you get the chance to be close to the Avengers. If I had that-"
"You would try to seduce Thor?" I asked, snorting because everybody in the entire school knew how much she loved Thor.
Ashtyn raised her eyebrows as she flicked the back of her mouth with her tongue, "Well...that's not the point. I bet I could name at least one avenger you would like."
I smirked, "Try me."
She devilishly grinned, "Thor."
"You literally just said him!"
She continued ignoring my statement, "Captain America."
"He's like a hundred years old!"
"Black widow?"
I laughed, she didn't know Black Widow's actual name.
"I'm straight...plus she's way too old like every other Avenger for me."
Ashtyn kept throwing names left and right, some of them didn't even make sense. I laughed hysterically when she even asked Ironman, that was probably the worst name of all.
Ashtyn sighed now, almost giving up. But then it was like a lightbulb went off in her head as her eyes lit up.
"What about Spider-Man?"
I tilted my head, I knew of him, but I actually have never really met him. My dad has mentioned him once or twice when he was in the middle of his fighting stage with Steve, and I also heard he saved Liz Allan when they went to D.C. Otherwise, I knew nothing.
"Spider-Ma-"
"Hey, Ashtyn!"
I suddenly turn my head up to see Ned come up to our table. He quickly took a seat next to Ashtyn on her side and grabbed a notebook and pencil from out of his school bag.
"I was wondering if you knew the answers to three and seven- oh, also hi Maria!" he said, now noticing me and waving. I offered a small smile and wave back.
Ashtyn and Ned were very close with one another. They had apartments right next to each other in their building, which created their mothers to become friends. Ned always had trouble with math so he would often come to Ashtyn for help, even though I always was the one to give her the answers. Ashtyn and I decided to not say anything to him however, it wasn't worth our time.
Behind Ned, waiting impatiently was Peter Parker, however.
Peter Parker.
I never really have spoken to him to unlike how I have spoken to Ned. He seemed a lot shyer and timid unlike Ned, who was often a friendly guy. They both were pretty awkward so I guess that's how they matched up.
"So the answer to the question would be 2.093681?"
Ashtyn and Ned continued to carry on their discussion while I observed Peter. He seemed impatient, and almost annoyed with how long Ned was taking. He breathed fast and kept tapping his toe as while checking the clock. For some reason that I have yet to find out, I got the urge to jokingly ask him.
"Jeez, Peter. Hold your horses," I teased. I laughed slightly at my own joke but stopped when he didn't react at all. He just simply stared at me with these big brown eyes, confused why I would acknowledge him.
"Sorry, he can sometimes get ahead of himself because of his spine-"
"Ned!" Peter finally roared out at him, breaking his trance with me. Ned went wide-eyed and froze realizing he just almost- said something Peter didn't want him to say? I wasn't quite sure.
"Uh, we better get going. Thanks for the answers," Ned said, before gathering all his supplies together as he left the table.
Weird, was all I could think of.
Ashtyn followed them with her eyes before she turned back to me, most likely to continue where we left off.
"Anyway, sorry about that. What were we talking about?"
I was about to open my mouth and answer but she cut me off, "Oh, yes! Spider-Man. He's pretty famous, I'm surprised you haven't heard about him. He-"
DING
The lunch bell rung, sending all the Midtown high schoolers going out like a stampede. Ashtyn and I both grabbed our lunches to stand up and empty our trays, while she continued to talk.
"Just look him up on YouTube tonight. Trust me, you won't be disappointed," she said, before winking as she made her way to her next period.
