UNKOWN
11:33 pm; FridayThis is not good. No. No.
My high heels clicked fast against the tile as I hurried down the hall. I could feel sweat dripping between my dress suit, sliding down the side of my chest.
I was supposed to be home by now. Jessica is probably waiting in bed for me. Already put him asleep. Ryan was snuggling fast asleep with his stuffed dog. I bet he asked Jessica, "Where's mommy?" And she would likely smile as she does, to reassure him. "Oh sweetie... she is just at work. Don't worry..." But even a small child could see through that this was not normal. But before I could even face Jessica with excuses, and our son with ignorance for his questions, I had to see her. Why was this my job? I wasn't quite sure.
I came across her door, at the top of the building, and knocked lightly before entering. I could feel myself shaking. This is not even my fault.
She sat in her office chair - facing the windows behind her rather than her desk. Maybe this was better, I wouldn't see her intimidating face when I tell her. I waited a few good seconds, for just maybe a ironic inconvenience to occur, but nothing happened. I sighed.
"Uh- pardon- but I received some news from Gus and Rebecca..." I trailed off, waiting for her response to my presence. But it never came.
"They- uh- they told me um- well they-" I paused and took a deep breath in.
"They did not capture Maria Stark. In fact, most men were hurt badly- some even killed." I squeezed my eyes shut, waiting for her to scream, throw something, possibly even roar like a lion at me. But yet again, it never came. Instead it was silent... until she said something so emotionless, it left me stunned.
"How?"
I opened my left eye, still flinching.
"Well I-" Her chair slowly swirled around, and I saw her calm, slight smiling face. Yet, she began twitching.
"HOW?!" she repeated now, suddenly agitated insanely.
"I- I- it's the boy! He drove her away- he protected her- ma'am, I told you-"
"DON'T TELL ME YOU 'TOLD ME'!" She slammed her hands down on the desk, and I could feel even the whole room jump in terror.
"WE WERE SO CLOSE! SO CLOSE! THAT IDIOT BOY JUST HAD TO GET IN THE WAY!" She clenched her fists that were laying on the table. Her scrunched up face, with practically steam coming out of her ears, was enough to give even the most superior people nightmares.
"I do so apologize ma'am..." I say quietly. "I would suggest maybe we should just desert the plan-"
Suddenly, the doors slam open with a rushing Rebecca and Gus following close behind. They didn't even stop walking until she began her rant again.
"AND JUST WHAT DO YOU THINK-"
"We have found a solution, " stated Rebecca, not even acknowledging her hatred filled expressions. Her face still stood steamed but loosened a bit.
"Well tell me!"
"We must get rid of Peter Parker, " Gus said. She rolled her eyes, impatient with the obviousness.
