MARIA
7:02 pm; Tuesday- Avengers Facility

I stare in disbelief at him.

Peter Parker was the Spider-Man.

Out of all people it could have been, it had to be him. I would have loved Kade to be Spider-Man, but heck, I didn't care who it was. All I wished it was anybody but Peter. I felt like raging or even screaming. But I couldn't do that, because then my dad won't let me be a part of the plan.

"Oh, we know each other very well," I sarcastically replied, while Peter looked at me with shocked eyes. He seemed like he suspected me to rage at seeing him, which I originally was going to, but I stayed calm.

My dad looked back and forth between me and Peter, observing and trying to figure out our strange reactions. He soon gave up though, most likely realizing it wasn't worth it.

"Well, I'll be outside getting ready to go home, Maria. Maybe you should talk to Peter for a while before we start our training tomorrow," he said, exaggerating the 'training' part. I knew he only exaggerated it so I know I'll be spending time with the boy in the future.

I glared at Peter as my dad went to leave the room. Peter looked around the balcony, avoiding my eyes.

"So, when were you going to tell me you're Spider-man?" I snapped, as he casually walked around observing the sky.

"Uh-well, er you never really asked."

I rolled my eyes at his defensive comment, I wasn't sure where to go with him when it comes to talking.

I walked up next to him, which almost seemed to startle him. He looked at me blankly, as I looked up to his tall figure.

"Let's get one thing straight Peter-" I say, as I lean in closer to him.

"We aren't friends. I'm only doing this so I can prove to my dad he doesn't need to lock me up, but that doesn't make a difference between you and I. We act the same we always have to each other at school, and that's it. Just work partners," I spat at him with a pointed finger, almost feeling bad. But what would Kade think if I hung around him?

Just work partners...just work partners, I repeated in my mind.

"Yeah sure, work partners... I'm going to go- that's okay with Mr. Stark right?" he asked, ignoring the subject we were on. I groaned in frustration, as he looked down at me with confusing eyes.

He slowly backed up, as if he was trying to sneak away or hint he was leaving.

"Go-just goes," I said, allowing him to leave.

"Alright... well bye," he said quickly as he swooped on his mask, and jumped backward in a backflip off the balcony. My eyes went wide as he dropped, and I rushed over to the part he jumped off at.

"Peter!" I yelled while I leaned over the balcony to see where he went. I sighed as he was nowhere to be seen. Everything I just worried about disappeared, as it went back to anger.

I am going to have to be partners with him.

We were back at our mansion now, and I couldn't help but be moody with the whole situation. Even worse, my dad couldn't see what was so bad about it.

"I had no clue you went to school with him! Why are you blaming me?" He went to open the fridge and grabbed a yogurt. I leaned against the kitchen island, getting more furious that he didn't think it was a big deal.

"We. Can't. Be. Partners," I threw my hands in the air, to show how important this was. He finally turned to look at me, as he put his yogurt down. He crossed his arms even.

He rolled his eyes, "I think you're being dramatic-"

"Hello Tony," Pepper walked into the kitchen, looking down at papers as she walked, "Stark industries- wait, why is Maria still up?" Pepper asked as she noticed me once she looked up.

Tony sighed as he took another bite of his yogurt, "She's trying to convince me to not have Peter as her partner... apparently, they know one another from school." I glared at my dad, while he dropped some of the gooey strawberry yogurt on his pajama shirt. His efforts to lick it off his shirt annoyed me.

"You don't understand! You wouldn't want to work with-"

"I do understand your safety! Don't you dare-"

"ENOUGH!" Pepper yelled in the middle of us, as she swatted her arms on the kitchen island. She breathed out as she looked at my dad, and now me. Both of us remained silent in shame.

"Maria, Tony is right. Originally, you weren't going to even be a part of the plan. Now you are. If you want to stay a part of it, you need to work with Peter. That's all you have to do," she said to me, softly.

I sighed, as I looked down to the ground to avoid both of the adult's eyes. Was it worth it? Should I listen to my father? I wasn't sure.

"Please, Maria. Work with Peter for me," my dad said softly, which was rare. My dad never begged, people always were the ones begging him.

I looked back up to his pleading eyes, as he cocked his head at me. I smiled softly to myself, knowing I'll regret this.

"Alright."
