Four Months Later

I stretched out my legs as I woke up in my strangely cold bed. I was used to waking up in a ball of limbs and totally uncomfortable, but now I was able to fully stretch out. I forced my eyes open and looked around and for the first time in months I woke up alone. I sat up quickly and looked around the room expecting to see then standing around the room doing god knows what. They were nowhere to be found.

"Where the hell are they?" I asked myself as I crawled out of bed and pulled on one of J's shirts.

I did not know what to do with myself. I tried not to be mad but I could not understand where they where. Out of all the days for me to wake up alone why today. When I need them the most. They knew how much I hated today, but they were still gone. I walked out of the bedroom and into the main living area expecting to maybe see Quinn making breakfast or something, but there was no one there. No Quinn no J, not even any of the goons. I was no longer angry I was now starting to get worried. The safe house was never empty. Never, there was always someone wondering around.

"Guy's where are you?" I called out.

There was a noise coming from the loading dock. I walked towards the dock. I saw Quinn's bat leaning against the door. Good night wrote on it. My stomach flipped as I became even more worried. She and that bat were practically attached to one and other. I quickly pushed the door open and ran outside ready for whatever fight was awaiting me.

"Hurry up. Be careful, not hurt it." Quinn said as she bossed around the goons who were trying to carry a large crate off of a truck and into the building.

"Quinn, what the fuck is going on?" I asked her.

"You're awake. Shit. I wanted to get this inside before your woke up but I guess surprise." She said as she held up her hands in the air and ran over to me.

She pulled me into a tight hug. As she smiled at me.

"What is this? I was worried something happened to you guys. Wheres J?" I asked as I looked around not seeing him anywhere.

"He had to go out of town on some business but he will be back as soon as he can." She answered before hurrying off to yell at the people who were carrying the large crate.

I know I told the two of them I did not want a party or anything special today but I really did want to at least spend the day with the two of them and it hurt that he was not here.

"Come on, I know you said you didn't want anything for your birthday but I had to get you at least one gift." She said as she grabbed my hand and dragged me back inside.

"Now I feel really bad that you had to find a home for your kittens because my babies kept trying to eat them so I figured I would get you a bigger cat." She said before turning to look back to the men.

"Open her up!" She yelled but no one moved they all looked at each other as if they were scared of whatever was in that box.

"You are all really useless." She said as she walked over and pulled the latch to open the door that landed on the floor with a large thud.

At first, I could not see anything as whatever was in there must be all the way in the back. I heard it before I could see it. There was a low growl coming from the back of the box.

"Quinn what did you do?" I asked her as I pulled her behind me.

"I got you a new kitty." She said happily.

Then like a bat out of hell a black panther jumped out of the box. It was snarling and swiping at everyone around her. She was really scared and the yelling men standing around her pointing guns at her were not helping.

"Everyone out!" I yelled at them.

They all looked at me for a second. They struggled with fear of what would happen if they left and we got killed by this big cat or what I would do to them if they stayed.

"Out!" I yelled again and this time the listen.

"Hey, there girl," I said to her in a much calmer voice once everyone was gone.

She snarled and swiped at me in response.

"Hey, it's okay where not going to hurt you," I said as I took a step forward.

She looked at me baring her teeth as I approached her.

"There, there. Everything is going to be okay." I said as I stepped a little closer.

I held out my hand to her I was only a few inches away now. I closed the distance between us and placed my hand on her head as I started petting her softly. The second my hand touched her she seemed to calm down.

"Look she likes you," Quinn said happily as the panther lay down at my feet.

"Where did you even get her?" I asked as I continued to pat her head.

"I stole her from the zoo silly." She answered as if my question was crazy.

"Do you like her?" She asked me.

"I love her thanks, babe," I answered before pulling her over and giving her a quick kiss.

"I knew you would. Mistah J wasn't so sure." She told me.

"Did he say when he was going to be back?" I asked not being able to hide the pain in my voice.

"Don't let him ruin your day. It's his loss if he doesn't want to be here. That just means we will have a girls day. What yah wanna do?" She asked me.

"Crawl back into bed and pretend I'm not a year older," I told her.

"Not happening. Look the boss is out of town we can do whatever we want. So what kind of trouble do you wanna get in while we have the time to play?" She asked me with her sinister grin.

"You know what, I can think of a few things we can do today. First things first, get back to bed so I can show you just how much I appreciate your gift." I told her causing her to giggle and skip off towards the room.

"Don't eat any of the help," I told the jaguar before I followed after her.
