Matthew's P.O.V.
''She won't pick up the phone.'' I sighed, throwing it in the bed behind me and rubbing my face.
''Calm down mate, she might just be like, I don't know, sleeping? Taking a shower? Maybe she's out and forgot her phone at home.'' Harvey replied as he continued to mess with his incredibly long hair.
''No, she's probably staring at the phone screen and mumbling stuff like 'I don't wanna answer this, I'm not gonna.''' I laid back down as I mimicked her voice and he laughed.
''I'm sure her voice is not like that.''
''It's not, but the things she says are. My god, I hate this girl.''
''Nah you don't, if you did you would stop talking about her at some point, and you'd stop trying to get in contact with her.''
''I want to get in contact because I just bought her something! Nothing else.''
''Well, see?!'' He laughed as he turned around towards me. ''Already buying her gifts. How sweet of Matty, he's in lo-o-ove.''
I groaned and threw a pillow at him.
''Shu'up, it's nothing like that.''
''Yeah, it is.'' He laughed out loud again. ''Now get your arse off that bed cos I heard the doorbell going off; it's probably the boys.''
I sighed loudly again, sliding myself out of bed and down the stairs. The door was flung open to reveal the four young lads my half brother had invited over to hang out at my house, even though I had only spoken to them twice (…and now they brought their dogs).
''Hey Matt!'' Ashton, who was on the front, grinning widely like in the last time we had seen each other, spoke.
I smiled and greeted them all as I invited them in, offered drinks and made small talk like a nice host, until Harvey and Louis, my actual 12 year old brother, came down.
While they greeted each other and just generally interacted (...as Anna would say), I took my chance to go and try to ring her again. Fortunate me, she picked up this time.
''Hi, Matthew.'' She said in her usual monotone voice, and I smiled.
''Hi, Anna. Why do you only call me Matthew?''
''Because it's your name…?''
''Oh, yeah, but people usually call me either Matty or Matt.''
''I, uh, I don't know. Okay? Matty.'' We were quiet for a second, and I knew exactly how she felt; uncomfortable. ''I don't feel comfortable using that.''
In that moment, Louis came in moaning about being hungry and I could hear Anna chuckling when I told him to shut up.
''Alright then...'' I chuckled, shooing Louis away. ''You're so weird.''
''I guess?'' She chuckled again and I smiled wider. ''Uh, well, what'd you call me for? ...Sorry if I sounded really rude.''
''It's alright, you didn't at all. I just wanted to know if you wanted to, by any chance, come over? We could have a drink, watch a movie, finish what we started that other day...''
Anna was silent for what felt like ages, but I could hear voices on the other side of the line, like she was talking to someone else. It sounded like an argument; I couldn't hear what they said, though.
''Um, I can't, Matthew. I'm a bit busy, I have some stuff to do.''
''Oh.'' Was all I could say for a while, before she spoke again.
