The wind blew cold and sharp through the open window in my room, making it hard not to shiver and complain.

''Alex, close that window, I'm gonna catch a cold.''

''No, wait, I have to finish this. Look, it's nearly all dried.'' He said as he pointed at one of the many tie-dyed shirts he had made that afternoon while he hung out there at my flat.

''Just put it in the dryer, it's too cold already to have to handle the wind.''

''Here,'' he smiled as he threw me another sweater. ''put this and shut up.''

I sighed in an over dramatic way as I put it on, and left him there to dry his shirts while I went to pick up my phone that rang in the loudest and most annoying way possible.

The screen read 'Matthew' and I wasn't sure if I wanted to answer. It's been five days since our last encounter, when he found out my age, and I still wasn't quite sure of what we were. And honestly, I wasn't exactly thrilled to find out.

I declined the call and went back into my room, where Alex had started working on another shirt, this time pink and blue.

''Who was that?'' He asked, looking up at me briefly.

''Uh, nobody.'' I answered as I slumped down on my bed again.

''You sure?''

''Yeah, don't worry.''

For a long time we were quiet, Alex painting the shirts, extremely focused, and I just sprawled on my bed, scrolling through meaningless social networks on my phone as I procrastinated to go and get homework done. It was just when I saw a couple of new tweets on MGMT's twitter page that I spoke again.

''Oh, look,'' I started, as I waited for the page to load. ''after twelve days, look who decides to finally show up...''

''What? Who?'' Alex asked without taking his eyes off the yellow and green shirt.

''Em gee em- oh my god,'' I cut myself off as I read the tweets, making me sit up quickly. ''they are coming to London.''

''Uh? Alright, nice...'' He responded, now mixing the colours to make another one. ''Who again?''

''MGMT, ALEX, MGMT. You know MGMT, right? Used to be our favourite band way back when James was still alive and before you left me. MGMT. They are coming back.''

''Wow, hey, calm down,'' He said, finally looking up. ''don't need to be so... mean.''

''I'm not being mean, I'm just being straight-forward. I know you left, you know you left, I know James died, you know James died. There are no secrets here. No need to sugar coat it.''

He rubbed his eyes sighing and nodded. ''Okay. Cool, MGMT are coming to town. When?''

''A week, actually.'' I said, averting my gaze back down towards my phone. ''Let's go get tickets.''

***

A painfully annoying journey with rain pouring down from the sky restlessly (god taking the piss again) and awkward phone calls consisting of Matthew asking me to come over and his little brother asking him to get off the phone and make him food, all while my dear friend Alex moaned about being hungry and made stupid jokes about me and Matthew, we had finally got tickets for the MGMT concert next week and were returning home.

Or at least I thought.

When Alex made a wrong turn and got another road, I looked at him with narrowed eyes. He was smirking mischievously and I knew he'd done that for one reason and one reason only.

''You're taking me to Matthew's house, aren't you?''

''Yes. Now tell me, where exactly is it?''

***

''Alex, I don't want to- stop! I don't want to go in! I don't want to talk to him, stop it!'' I whisper-yelled at my friend as he pushed me towards the front door to Matthew's big black house.

No, I didn't tell him Matthew's address; Hann did. After I refused to speak, Alex just called him and asked it, and Hann just gave it. Like, not even considering we might have been going to rob his band mate, or rape him, or something like that.

And as I once again ruminated on why was that happening and how did we reach that point, Alex pressed the doorbell and ran away to his car, leaving me alone at Matthew's doorstep, wishing I was anywhere but there.

''COMING!'' A familiar voice that sounded nothing like Matthew's yelled from inside and I wondered who was that.

Even though they said they were ''coming'', it still took them two minutes to open the door for me. It was just when I was turning around to leave that it happened, and the person, that I figured was a guy, called me.

''HEY! Where are you going?'' The Australian accent was so strong that I couldn't bring myself to run away from it.

I turned around to be faced with a blonde haired guy wearing a red bandana and with the cutest smile ever plastered on his face. Oh god, I sounded like such a teenage girl saying that, ''the cutest smile ever''. Oh wait, I am a teenage girl. I guess it's alright then.

''Hey...'' The guy spoke again, waving a hand in front of my face, waking me up from my thoughts.

''Uh, hello,'' I awkwardly said, shifting my weight from foot to foot. ''is Matthew here?''

''Yeah, he is, but who are you?'' He narrowed his eyes in a funny way, making me believe that he wasn't being exactly serious. Still, I wouldn't risk it.

''Anna.''

''Alright, just hang in there.'' He smiled again before going back inside, yelling a few things, receiving more yells as response, then I heard my name, a squeal, loud noises as if someone was falling down the stairs, a dog barking and finally, the guy came back to the door. It made it sound like it was hell in there. ''Come on in.'' He flashed that wide grin and I honestly just wanted to kiss him.

And that was weird, because I never want to kiss anyone.

But weirder was the scene I encountered once I was inside.

It was, in fact, chaos. There were two dogs in there, a German Shepherd and a Yorkshire, milk splattered over the coffee table, cigarettes everywhere, weed on the carpet, broken glass on the corner, bottles of alcoholic drinks and four other boys.

''HELLO!'' The first one yelled, jumping up as he came to greet me. He had this weird coloured hair, with blue, purple and pink strands mixed with his natural black hair (...I assumed it was his natural hair).

When he was getting a bit too close to pull me in for a hug I took steps back so I was kind of out of reach, making it awkward for him to keep coming to me to hug me.

''Uh, hi.'' I muttered. ''Where's Matthew?'' I asked, looking at the blonde boy again.

''I'M HERE!'' He yelled from upstairs. ''I'm kinda busy... But I'm coming!''

I looked at the stairs, at the boys, at the dogs and at that mess, and wondered what would happen if I just left, or if I ran upstairs. For a second or two I pondered what I should do, and then I chose.

I held my breath as I ran past the two guys standing and made my way up the stairs towards the only familiar voice I could hold on to in that place.
