Bucky's POV

I have lost many things in this life. I lost my family and friends, I lost my freedom when HYDRA held me captive, and I lost my left arm back during World War 2. The real question is: What haven't I lost? But the one thing I never expected to lose was her. I never expected for her kidnapping to be one of the biggest loses of my entire existence, all 90 plus years that I've been alive. I had also never expected to fall in love, either. That was what made this the worse loss I have ever felt.

——

I stormed out of my room, trailed by Steve, and made my way to the Conference room where the rest of the Avengers and Fury were meeting. Steve's words still echoed in my head.

"She's gone, Buck... HYDRA has her."

I had asked him if anyone was sent to follow them, but Fury had given orders to not follow. There were "too many valuable lives at stake."

"Buck, don't you think we should stop and think about this before you go in and tell off the Director of SHIELD?"

"No. Because if Tony or any other Avenger was kidnapped, there would be a team going in to save them right now."

"That is not true, Bucky." Steve grabbed my shoulder, and I stopped hesitantly and turned around. "Fury just wants to figure out a plan. It seems simple enough."

"Steve. Wake up!" I glared at him. "HYDRA is not just going to lock her in a cell! They will treat her just as they did me! Maybe even worse, since they know that we're together!"

"Y/N is a smart girl." He sighed. "She won't say anything. She's been trained."

"You don't understand." I shake my head, laughing at his ignorance. "They aren't going to tickle her with a feather until she gives up. They will torture her until she can barely think a coherent thought. "

Before Steve could say another word, the door opened and Director Fury stepped out.

"Gentlemen." He nodded before stepping around us to walk away.

"Why weren't you able to rescue her?" I blurted out before he could get far enough away. "Why didn't you rescue her?"

"I'm sure Rogers briefed you on why." Fury turned to give me a pointed look.

"I want to here it from you." I stepped closer, until we were almost chest to chest.  I resisted the urge to grab his collar and pull him closer. "I want to here the excuse you have for letting my girlfriend be kidnapped by HYDRA."

"This organization is not about the life of one agent, Barnes. It is about the protection and safety of the lives of millions of people! So, Agent Y/L/N's unfortunate kidnapping is not of top priority."

"Even with the information she could have?"

"She knows minimal information at best. Barnes, I am sorry, but I will not risk any more men at this time to save her. You may take a group of your own to conduct a rescue, but I do not suggest it. Do it at your own risk." Without waiting for a reply, Fury turned and continued walking away.

I could feel my hands begin to shake as I watched the bastard walk away, with no concern in the world about Y/N. A hand clasped my shoulder and I turned to look at Steve. His eyes were gentle. "Tell me when and where, pal, and I'll be there."

"Thanks, Steve."
