Frank
Once Hazel had finished explaining our current situation to Mata, we all sat the main living area of her small but comfortable hut.
We all sat crossed legged on the multiply woven sheets of bamboo, that Mata laid out for us. Hazel sat practically on top of me, (not that I was complaining), but close enough to Mata, who was sitting on the ground in front of a middle-aged man, with jet black hair which was visibly turning silver.
Reyna and Piper sat top and tail, close to the small arched doorway, we'd entered in.
As Hazel was explaining the prophecy to Mata, I couldn't help but notice how much she was focusing on what Hazel was saying. I'd have to admit it was a bit strange, how much she was concentrating; it was as if she was trying to remember the entire thing.
Another strange thing was the vibe, her father was giving off. He seemed dazed or not really living. He was just staring at the blank thatched wall at the opposite end of the room the entire time.
I did try and ask Mata about it once, but she claimed it was because he didn't understand any English and was blind in both eyes, so he spent most of his day staring at the wall.
I simply nodded, though for some strange reason I didn't believe it.
Her father muttered something in Indonesian, and Mata muttered something back to him. Whatever she said to him sounded hurtful, as she whispered it in a threatening manner before turning back towards us.
I turned to Hazel, to see if she'd seen what i just did but she was facing Piper, so clearly not.
"What did he say?" I enquired, casually. Or tried to, at lesast.
She was visibly taken aback by my question but answered anyways. "He asked when I will be returning."
"And what did you say back?" I asked again. "It sounded a bit harsh, whatever it was."
"I said I didn't know."
I narrowed my eyes at her, but ultimately left it as that.
I didn't want to make it seem like, I was onto Mata, just in case my suspicions were correct and we were potentially in danger.
Mata turned back to her father and Hazel, continuing their previous conversation.
Shuffling the diameter of the small room, I joined Piper and Reyna at the arched doorway. They were mid- conversation when I scooted in.
"There's no way! She's so nice!" Piper, whisper shouted, glaring at Reyna. " She literally offered us a place to stay after scotching my ass. Besides, she's the daughter of Fortuna! Fortuna! The Goddess of fucking Victory!"
Reyna glared harder, her eyes cold and stony as she focused on the back of Mata's chocolate infused pink hair.
"That doesn't matter. I have a bad feeling about her," she fixed her glare back onto Piper. "Besides, she bloody winked at me, earlier."
Hmm, she did?
Piper's eyes softened before smirking mischievously. "So, is that what this is about?"
"Fuck you!" Reyna spat in defeat, leaning onto the door folding her arms, scowling.
I would have agreed with Reyna but frankly, that argument was very entertaining to watch and before I could input, Mata and Hazel reappeared; clearly done with their conversation.
"Mata's father gave his blessing, so she'll be joining us on the quest," Hazel smiled softly.
Reyna rolled her eyes, and Piper smiled whilst trying not to avoid eye contact with Mata. I focused all my attention on Hazel.
She continued. "So, I think we should actually attempt to find the gate tomorrow. Meaning, we should get some sleep, now."
"Yeah, I agree. There's two rooms you could sleep in; the living room or my room," Mata started. "So, I'm thinking Piper and Reyna can sleep in my room, with me. Whilst Hazel and Frank sleep, here. I'll pull some mats out."
She left the small room, in search of some mats, Piper followed.Whilst Reyna hung back with Hazel and I.
She stood crossing her arms until Hazel pushed her out towards Mata's room, closing the doors behind them.
Of course, that left me alone in the room with Mata's father, who was no longer staring at some random wall. He was staring directly at me and beckoning me towards him.
I stood stationary for a while, not really sure whether I should go to him or not. I mean, I felt sorry for him and all, but he did give off a really disturbing vibe.
I must have been over thinking it because by the time, I'd come back to reality, he was no longer interested in me but scribbling something down on a piece of paper, before stretching it out to me instead.
I didn't hesitate that time and just took the paper, stuffing it into my pocket, before, he got up and staggered out of the room.
I pulled the paper back out again once he'd left and tried to read what it said but it was in Indonesian.
It read:
Hati-hati, gadis itu bukan apa yang dia klaim. Awas! Anda telah diperingatkan.
Was I supposed to miraculously just know how to read Indonesian? What was I even supposed to do with the note?
My thoughts were interrupted by Hazel moaning at me.
"Frank, stop day dreaming and just lay down," she said sleepily, stretching out on a neon orange mat. "And turn the light off, whilst you're at it."
I shook my head slowly, whilst laughing before crossing the room and flipping the switch, to turn off the lights.
"Good night," I whispered, laying down next to her and draping my arm across her body. She turned around and snuggled her face into my chest.
"Frank."
"Hmm."
"Try not to squash me during your sleep," she whispered cheekily.
I turned to look at her properly, before her kissing quickly but softly on the lips and re positioning my hand on the small of her back.
"Good night," Hazel muttered before snoring quietly.
I smiled to myself.
"Good night."
A/N:'Sup, peeps! Right, from now on all chapters will, kinda come in trios, just to help the story flow a bit more and so it doesn't get confusing for you or me. Meaning, as from this chapter onward, instead of writing one or two chapters about the same section of the quest (example Connor, Dominique or Nico and Will), I'll write three chapters to help y'all understand it better. Ok, bye!!
This will start with the next chapters , which will be in the POV of Annabeth, Jason and Connor!
