Ha! Y'all never expected a Mata chapter, did ya?!
Mata
Did I have to have a massive crush Reyna?
Yes.
Was I supposed to?
No.
Frank and Reyna left from sight, leaving me with the daughter of Aphrodite.
"Hey? You good?" She asked, concerned, placing a hand on my shoulder. Her green eyes stared at me, reading me like a book. For a daughter of Aphrodite, she was pretty carefree and not stuck up, which was honestly surprising.
Before I could respond, she squinted at me. "What happened with you and Reyna? Did she deny you, even though you thought you two had a connection?"
I retracted from her, shocked. How on earth did she know?
She giggled at my expression. "It's the Aphrodite sense. Guess I'm right then."
At that very moment, Frank and Reyna reappeared; they looked far from happy.
Reyna's stunning features were in their permanent frown, but what surprised me was Frank's expression. He seemed angry, which was different from his confused face.
What happened there? What did the man say?
"What happened?" Hazel asked, walking up to Frank.
His eyes softened once he saw her and he took her off to one corner to speak to her.
I noticed that Reyna was staring directly at me, expressionless. Turning my attention to her, I held her eye contact until she shook her head and turned away again.
"Guys, what happened?" Piper reiterated.
I felt Reyna steal another glance at me before speaking. "Nothing. Let's keep going, this quest isn't going to complete itself."
She leapt over the masses of vines, that overgrew around the everlasting row of trees. I followed her example and bounded after her, grabbing her arm, once I'd caught up with her.
Reyna took one look at me before stopping completely in her tracks.
"I thought I made it clear, that I didn't want to speak to you," she stated bluntly, yanking her arm away.
Ouch, I thought, trying my hardest to keep a straight a face.
"I just wanted to know if you were OK? That man you and Frank were talking to seemed weird. He looked like he was hiding something, you know?"
Reyna stared at me, sadly before sitting on a near by rock. I watched, as she ran her hands through her long brown locks, before tapping the small space next to her; signifying for me to sit down.
We sat in complete silence for a couple of minutes. It was a silence filled with a thousand words. There were so many things I wanted to say to her in that moment. So many.
Starting with the kiss.
The kiss, I thought.
The events from last night replayed in my head as I stared into the winding paths of the forest.
I suppose to be on a quest, that would change the world as we know it, forever. But instead of focusing on that, I'm creating a new set trails for myself. The first of which was finding out, why Reyna hated me so much.
I wasn't supposed to care but I needed know what I'd done, that caused her to dislike me so much.
She simply sighed before turning towards me but avoiding all types of eye contact with me. "I don't hate you, Mata. I'm just confused about the situation. I mean, I've never kissed a girl before-" she paused " well, I've never kissed a girl and actually felt something. It's frustrating."
"Me too," I stated. "I'm really sorry for kissing you so suddenly, I wasn't thinking."
The way the sun hit her stunning features made her look even more beautiful than before. I could have honestly kissed her again, but the others came climbing through the over growth.
"Well, let's not dwell on the past," Reyna said, smiling slightly whilst she stood up and offered me a hand.
"We've got a quest complete and a group of bandits to bust."
I took her hand and stood up.
This was going to be harder than I thought.
× × ×
Trudging through the overgrown forest was a lot harder than I thought it'll be. I mean, I had been trained to travel through terrains harsher than this. So why was it so hard to just climb over a couple vines and shit?
"This way!" Hazel squealed, using her sword to hack through low laying plants and basically anything that lay in our way.
Yet it was so tiring, my knees almost gave way when we stopped on an open patch of grass for a second, but Reyna turned around and gave me a small smile before leaving to have a conversation with Frank.
I wonder why they keep going off in private like that. They left randomly to talk to that weird tour guide, with the crazy eyes. I swear, there was something about him that was so strange or, actually, more like off.
Anyways, now they're going off again. I could listen in on their conversation, to be honest, if I really wanted to, but I respected Reyna too much for that.
My thoughts were interrupted by Frank and Reyna running towards us. My human instinct was to run as well so I did.
"Why are we running?" Hazel panted, as we bounded over fallen trees and over grown vines.
"There's literally giant things around that corner!" Reyna replied, as we all crawled underneath a half dead tree.
I stole a glance backwards and as Reyna had previously stated, there were really 8 foot naked people running after us. They were armed with, what seemed like sharpened logs and only had a a single leaf over their private parts to cover their dignity.
"Hey guys, we need to scale that cliff!" Hazel yelled, whilst pointing to a huge...um... cliff, with multiple vines hanging from the top.
"I'm not scaling that!" Piper replied, whilst the rest us grabbed onto a vine and attempted to climb it. "I'm not trying to die!"
"Well, you'll die if you say down there."
Piper didn't need to be told twice, before she grabbed onto one of the vines and joined us to climb.
Luckily, for us the giants weren't very smart. As soon as they got to the foot of the cliff they stopped and didn't look up once. They seemed to be confused as to where we were.
They weren't the only ones.
