I was naive. And my naivety may cost us our life.
I thought it'll be fine to go outside since we can outrun anybody. So if anything bad happen I thought we could just run away. The thought of traps never cross my mind.
When I came to, we are lying inside a moving wagon. My head hurts so bad and my whole body feels weak.
Emi is still unconscious. She had it worst since she got hit before I strengthened our body with magic. Not that the strengthening magic did any difference. I still got one hit KOed.
I feel around her head. There's some dried blood in her hair. Shit. She's injured.
So the strengthening magic does make a difference after all. The hit didn't make me bleed.
I tried to use healing magic but our mana was depleted. No choice. I quickly started to meditate, absorbing magic energy from the surrounding.
Luck is not on my side. There's even less magic energy around here than at our house. It'll take a lot longer for me to gather mana.
While absorbing magic, I look around the wagon. The wagon are fully closed with wooden planks wall on all sides so it's quite dark.
But I can see that we are not alone. There's about another half a dozen of kids around our age huddled together at the opposite end of the wagon from us. Some are crying while the others are either sleeping or unconscious.
My eyes met theirs. They have a terrified look on their face.
Terrified of us.
"Demon. " I heard one of them whispered in a frightened voice.
Seriously?
These guys are probably in the same shoe as us. Kidnapped. Yet they are afraid of us who's sharing the same fate as them?
The wagon continued to move in silence, accompanied by the distant sound of animals and insects.
Some time had passed. What little light we have coming from the outside through the gap between the wooden planks is gone, leaving us in total darkness.
"Lea, I'm hungry." Emi weep.
"I know." I said.
Since we share the same body, both of us will feel hungry at the same time.
Our empty stomach is grumbling. We've only drink milk early in the morning.
"It's cold..." Tears started coming out of her eyes again.
"I'm sorry, Emi. I'm sorry..." I whispered to her.
My voice shaking, unable to hold my tears. It's my fault. I put her in danger.
We cried ourself to sleep, hugging ourself.
"Mom... Dad... "
. . . . .
Blinding light woke me up. The wagon's door was opened, spilling sunlight on my face. A man stand at the door, holding a basket in his hand.
"Eat up little fuckers. You won't get anything else until tomorrow morning." The man said while throwing the content on the floor.
"Slam."
The door is closed shut.
Stale, hard bread rolled on the wooden floor. Everyone is awake. All eyes on the bread. But nobody moved.
Although everyone are hungry, nobody seems to have any appetite to eat. So am I. And Emi.
"Uwaah... Mommy..." Emi started crying again.
