From the fact that the lady actually leave us alone with just that one sentence, I'm fairly certain Priscilla is not lying.
Who the hell will leave their crying daughter alone with a two headed girl just from being told to give her some "time"?
"They are not my mommy and daddy..." Priscilla sobbed.
I stay silent and give Emi a signal to do the same.
"My mommy and daddy... they... bad guy killed them.." She let it out and start sobbing again.
I don't know what to say to her. So I just listen to her story.
She was going to visit her grandparents. But then, a group of bandits attack them and killed her parents. They were killed in front of her own eyes.
Priscilla cried the whole time she retell her story to us, it took a while for her to finish her story. And it took a lot longer for her to finally calm down and stop crying.
"I'm sowwy.." Priscilla sobbed while trying to wipe away her tears and snot that drenched our cloth but to no avail.
"It's fine. Don't worry." I took out our handkerchief and wipe the tears off her face and help her blow her nose empty.
We sat on the bed in silence.
"Um.. Lord.. your adoptive parents, are they nice to you?" I dare myself to ask, desperate to break this unbearable awkward silence .
"Em." Priscilla nodded.
Her body tremble. She's starting to break into tears again at the slightest mention of parents.
I should say something to her shouldn't I? After pondering for a while, I got an idea.
"Priscilla! Your mom and dad in heaven will be sad if you keep on crying like this....
She lowered her face and wipe the fresh beads of tears with her sleeve.
"Em.." She answer short.
"Good girl." I hug her lightly and pat her back. Her body is quivering. She's doing her best to not cry.
"Since they're nice to you, you need to be nice to them too okay? Your mom and dad will be mad if you are mean to nice people."
Priscilla didn't answer, but I can feel her head on our chest nodding slightly in agreement.
We talk for a long time. She tells me about her parents. Apparently her parents look very similar to Lord Tekum and his wife, which is why she's having a hard time to accept them eventhought they have been so nice to her. She feels like she's replacing her real parents with this people.
. . . . .
"What about you two? That guy look mean... Roar!" Priscilla holds a stuffed teddy Bear out towards us, shaking the bear's head menacingly.
The topic switched to us.
I let out a small chuckle. Somehow I know who Priscilla meant.
"Yeah, he is mean. He won't let us go home with dad!" Emi holds a man shaped doll and a child doll hugging before separating them near Priscilla's teddy bear.
"Then, how about I ask Lord Tekum to help? Everyone is afraid of him. He's powerful!" Priscilla reach into the sea of dolls and pull out a King doll.
"There's no need for that." I dismissed the idea.
Indeed, Lord Tekum seems to be of higher status nobility. But why would he help a weak and useless kid at the expense of straining connection with another noble?
What could he gain from helping us? I could only see it turn out bad for us. One, Lord Tekum does nothing but inform Bear of us asking for his help. Two, Lord Tekum see the money in us and take us over, basically nothing change except our owner changed but unlike Bear, we don't know if he'd let our parents come work for him.
Its a move with no good result but multiple bad results.
"Why? Do you not miss your parents?" Priscilla bring the King doll close to the child doll.
"We do..." I said, nodding the child doll's head.
"Dad went back to bring mom to us!" Emi lift the man doll high up and yelled out excitedly.
Before I realize it, we are playing with Priscilla's dolls for hours. If it wasn't for Lord tekum's wife calling us for dinner we wouldn't have stopped.
. . . . .
That night, we sleep together with Priscilla in her sea of plushies, but it turns out to be a bad idea.
While the dolls are soft, their buttons, eyes and noses made it less than comfortable. The bed is by far better than our bed back home, but the dolls make it suffocating and less comfortable than the ones Bear prepare for us.
Just that was nothing much. But after a while we are woken up by a kick to our gut!
The shock make me jump to out to our feet immediately, looking for the threat.
"Lea?" Emi whisper in a shaky voice, traumatized by all the pain she had suffered, to which I can only raise our shoulders in reply.
I scan around the dark room but there's no intruder in sight.
"No! No!" A distressed voice from Priscilla finally gave me the clue on what happened.
Priscilla is trashing around and talking in her sleep. I sat down on the bed next to her.
"No! No!" Beads of tears steams out of her already swollen eyes.
"She's having nightmare..." I whisper to Emi.
Emi grab Priscilla's flailing hands and she immediately grip our hands firmly. The trashing and tears stopped, But she's still having nightmare, so we continue to look after her, not knowing what to do. Not like we can fall asleep with her talking like this.
Priscilla's swollen eyes look pitiful. I don't know whether this will work, but I use healing magic on her. A soft green aura shine on her face. To my surprise the swelling subsided, and Priscilla woke up. She was in a daze for a second, staring at the ceiling before turning her eyes towards us.
"Uh huh.." I didn't expect her to wake up.
"You know, I meet the bad guys again, but then Emi and Lea came to rescue me." Priscilla yawned and went back to sleep, still clutching our hands.
Emi also yawn, laid our body down beside Priscilla's and immediately fall asleep, leaving me awake by myself.
