ch 28: the monster

Kanan and Bear walk into the flooding church. Both of them is standing on the water. Must be Kanan's magic in action.

Wait... water?

I look down at dad's feet. Dad feet too, is on the water. He's standing on it. To be precise, on ice. The water under us has turn to ice!

At first I thought the ice was the enemy's magic. But turn out that was a clash between two ice wielder. Looking back, there's a trail of ice where Dad sprinted through a while ago.

No wonder he could move so fast even with all the water around. I was scared out of my mind from being thrown into the air to notice that earlier.

The four man in the church stood silently. Bear look around under the water at his men laying unconscious. The water mage surprisingly had time to create air bubbles around everyone's head. So they're not in danger of drowning, despite being underwater.

Without taking his eyes off the three enemies, Dad put us inside his thick coat.

"MOVE! OR I, THE ICE MONSTER OF THE SHADOW MERCENARY WON'T BE ABLE TO ASSSURE YOUR LIFE!"

Dad bellowed with the loudest voice of any human I've ever heard that I ended up with a goosebumps.

With that declaration, wisp of cold air cover the entirety of his body and thin ice started forming on his arms, gradually moving upwards and to his body. The ice forms a sharp, spiky armor over dad's body.

Ice Monster? I cringe as I hear dad referring himself as such. But it seems like I'm the only one feeling that way.

Bear, Kanan and the other mage actually got struck with fear to the point I could feel their magic energy fluctuating. Both Kanan and the other mage look at Bear for his order. They're afraid to take action on their own.

Bear stood still for a while. Taking his time to think of what to do.

"MOVE!"

Dad shouted at Bear and Kanan with his sword pointed at them, taking a huge step towards them with confidence. The water in Dad's path turn to ice the moment he steps on them.

Bear look at Kanan and gave him a slight nod with his head.

"Let's ta.." Bear open his mouth.

"Whosh!"

Dad threw a blade of ice at Bear as he dash towards them.

"Crack..."

Suddenly the ice underneath us broke apart and got pulled into a whirlpool. Kanan destroyed dad's foothold in an attempt to stop his advance.

But dad still doesn't have any problem running towards them even on top of the fast spinning, huge whirlpool.

Seeing Dad still able to run on those whirlpool, Kanan move the water and ice away completely from underneath dad's feet.

He then put both of his palm in front of him and dad find himself running straight into an invisible wall.

As we fall down to the floor, Kanan make a gripping gesture with his hands, followed by sweeping motion and the ice armor covering most of dad's body shattered and flown away.

Within seconds, We find ourselves at the center of thousands of sharp ice shards, pointing at us.

"Crackle.. crackle"

The sound of thunder ripped through the hall as Bear extend both of his hands in front of him and conjure streaks of lightnings between them. Bear is showing off what he is capable of.
