"Always wash your hands before eating."

"kay."

"Eat lots of meat everyday."

"Yes dad."

"Go to bed early."

"Okay."

"Go to the toilet first before going to sleep."

"We know!"

Dad continue to nag during the short time alone we got. We are in a carriage, heading out of the capital. The carriage passed the city's gate and come to a stop at the road junction near the gate.

"Excuse me." Kanan politely draw our attention as he open the carriage door.

We were alone inside the carriage earlier. But theres no way we could have run away. They're prepared for that possibility.

They locked the door, there's five people guarding right outside of the carriage with dozens more people on other carriages and about a dozen men on horse.

And the carriage we are in is right in the middle of God knows how many carriages in this convoy. My guess is there's well over twenty carriages this time around.

Dad pick us up and step out of the carriage.

"Good morning." Bear greet dad.

"Good morning, boss." Dad answer awkwardly.

Dad reluctantly took Bear's offer to work for him. Not that Dad have many choice.

"We will be going to the south to my land. Head there since we probably won't be coming back to the capital anytime soon." Bear instructed.

"Alright."

"Here, take this horse." An held out the rein of the horse he was riding to dad. Dad gave a slight nod to An before returning his attention back to us.

"Daddy love you." Dad kiss Emi and me one last time and put us back in the carriage. He then took the horse from An.

"Daddy will be back. Promise me, you girls will behave and stay safe, okay?"

"Pwomiss." Emi answered. Her eyes are red and wet. She's at the point of tears.

"Promise." I follow suit.

Dad give us a bitter smile before climbing up the horse back.

"Bye bye." Dad wave as he ride the horse the opposite direction our convoy is going to move.

"Have a safe trip!" I yell.

"Shafe trip!" Emi echoed.

Before long, Dad is no longer in our sight, swallowed by the stream of carriages and horse riders. Emi use our right hand to wipe her tears, and I use the left hand.

Dad is going back to our home to get mom. He's planning to move into Bear's household and work for him. That way we can meet and be together.

"Aww, don't cry." Jing make a concerned face while trying to hold back his laughter. "Here, take this." He put two of the dark coloured berries that he is eating in our hand.

Jing gave us a big smile laced with mischief before closing the carriage's door... That smile of his makes me wonder if it's safe to eat this berry.

Well, since he's eating it, I guess it's fine.

Jing lock the door and we resume the travel to the south. As we are looking outside through the window, Emi put one berry into her mouth and the other in my mouth. We bite down on it. The berry is quite big, it barely fit in my mouth.

"Splosh!"

It is surprisingly, explosively juicy and it spilled out of our mouths. We had to use our hands to cover the mess. But it taste great. It's very sweet with a just hint of sourness..

Ah!..

I look at our palms. The juice is dark red. It looks exactly like blood. I turn my head to look at Emi. The red juice dripping out of her lips make it looks like she had just vomit blood. I took a towel they had prepare for us and wipe our hands and mouths.

But the color didn't disappear. The color sticks around after I wipe the juice away. So I wipe it again, harder this time. And it just got worse... I just smudge it all over her cheeks. Now Emi looks like a kid playing with her mom's lipstick.

"Ahaha! Lea is so red!" Emi laughed at me while wiping away the last of her tears. I wish there's a mirror in here so she can see her own crimson face.

She looks so cute. Ah well, nothing I can do about the smudge.

Before noon, we passed by a village, but we didn't stop. And just before sunset, we reach a small town, where we find an inn to sleep at for the night.

. . . . .

"Jing!!! Did you give them blood berries?"

An's loud voice woke us up. The unfamiliar ceiling and a horrified looking nanny by our bed left me in a daze for a moment. Nina is standing a bit behind the nanny, carrying a basket filled with towel and clothes. She's trying her best not to laugh at us.

Considering that there's over 20 carriage this time, I was expecting her to be onboard too. Maybe that boy... Kal was it? Maybe he's with us too.

Jing walk into the room and look at us with horror. But behind that horrified face I can see him trying to hide his laughter. But he failed.

"Ahaha. Look at them! Kids are so stupid." Jing laugh at us without bothering to hide it anymore.

"You are the stupid one!" An hit Jing on the head. "That colour won't go away for days! They need to work!"

Apparently, we are going to stay in this town for today and continue our travel tomorrow. In the meantime, They plan on putting us to work. But with how 'pretty' we are looking right now, they cancelled the work and we hit the road right away.

And no surprise, Jing got punished. Bear make him walk on foot the whole day.

"Can we have more?" I ask Jing as he walk alongside our carriage, teasing him.

"Sure." He beamed.

Huh? Unbelievable... Jing is not mad! It's as if he was expecting all these to happen.

. . . . .

I notice that there's a lot more settlements around here. Typically, they are less than a day travel apart from each other. So we don't have to camp by the roadside like the time we were bought.

The place we are going to is over a thousand kilometers away. It's going to be a long journey. So they are not rushing it. We travel for a day, then rest at a village or town for a day. Sometimes even more than a day.

Once the bloodberries' colour fade, Bear put us to work, gathering people at the local church and swindling.. I mean, preaching the folks and then take their mon.. donations. It was tiring at first, travelling for a day, then working, then back to travelling. But after a while it became just another everyday thing.

. . . . .

A bit over a month later, we reached a rather large town which home a noble family. But that should not matter. It should be the same routine. We sleep for the night, go to the church and collect 'donations', sleep and continue on the travel the next morning.

But as we were about to leave, a horse rider from the noble house came bearing a letter.

"Baron Petir, Marquess Tecum of Alastar requested a favor that you come to his humble abode. He wish to see the Holy maiden." The messenger explained, giving the letter to Kanan.

We are summoned to the noble's manor.
