chapter 16: We are goods

I know...  Since the first moment I saw the slaves in the slavery I already have a good guess of what they are sold for. And I thought that I've come to term with that. Yet, when it happened for real, our whole body trembled from fear and disgust.

Their muffled screams and moans barely reach our ears, but it send lasting shock to my mind.

"Lea..." Emi called out to me. Our body is trembling. Emi is scared after hearing the distress in the other slaves' voices.

"We will be fine.." I try to assure her.

My word doesn't sound very convincing for me. I pick up the blanket from under the seat, lie down and cover our whole body with it. Hopefully, this thick blanket will do the trick and block the noises for us. But nope, I still can hear everything clearly.

Emi looks like she is about to cry, so I sang her a lullaby, one that our mother used to sing for us. It's to drown the screams and moans of the other slaves and put her to sleep. Its amazing how fast Emi fell asleep, leaving me alone with the screams and moans of the female slaves, and one excited grown man eagerly waiting for his turn.

Seeing how this excited man is also our guard and he have the key to our carriage, I'm unable to fall asleep, fearing he might assault us. But that's just one of the many reason. Thinking back on how we end up here, those woman might also got kidnapped from their homes.

Does this world doesn't have law? Does criminal roams free while the civilian cower in fear? Does the strong can do whatever they want? Now it hit me harder than ever that I know nothing of this world.

This whole slavery shit also turned my head into a mess. Beautiful women are sold for those disgusting pigs to satisfy their lust. Cute little kids like Kal and Lina are probably sold for the same reason as well, for shitty animal of a people to relinquish their disgusting desire.

But what about us? Why did they buy a two headed kid? And for a hundred gold to boot. Why are they willing to pay that huge sum of money on us? What use do they have for us?

Our body is still shaking. Now that Emi is asleep, I can't trick myself into thinking that our body is shaking because Emi is scared. It's me, I'm the one who's actually scared. The helpless feeling of unable to do anything and also not knowing anything at all is gnawing at my mind.

I doubt we were bought for sex. While Emi is very adorable, I don't think there's someone out there with a fetish for two headed little girls. That's way too specific. And there's no way they bought a one hundreds gold coin two headed girl just to get us to work as servant.

Then, why? My pessimistic mind starts to spin a tale. There's a legend of two headed being in this land. And these people believe in it. And we are a two headed being. There might be a cult worshipping this legend. Bear and his men might be a part of the cult...

What if... We are going to be use as a sacrifice?

Yeah... That must be it...

Since we were never allowed to go outside of the house, and mom also stayed inside most of the time because of her sickly body, we spend most of our time listening to mom's stories.

From the myth about the era of gods and divine beings, the Azale record, the legend of the Seven Savior, The Shadow, to Dad's adventures and how she meet him. There's more, and we've listened to them countless of times each to the point we become sick of them and start pretending to sleep in the afternoon and sneak out when mom herself take a nap.

But, not once, not even once has mom mentioned any legend regarding a two headed being. These guys lumped the Shadow's legend and the Two headed legend together, so they must be equally popular. For mom to never mention the story to us, it must not be a nice one.

I bet the legend involved offering any two headed creature to the being in the legend. Maybe some ritual where they cut us in half to help free us from our mortal shackle or some gore bullshit.

If that's what the story is about, then it would explain a lot. Why mom never mention this legend to us, Why we were never allowed to go outside, why mom and dad hide us from everyone, why dad never let others into the house...

Shit!

Shit Shit Shit Shit! Shiiiiiit!

We are going to die huh...

After miraculously being saved by an unknown magician from dying on our very first day of being born...

After spending years in a timeless chamber, learning magic to keep our organs and body going...

after all the hardship mom and dad went through to let us grow healthily, despite our weak constitution and freakish nature...

All that effort is going to waste because of our selfishness. I should've know better than to go outside when mom and dad sternly warn us against doing so.

"Master... Are you watching us?" I whispered under my breath.

Apart from the moans getting louder, nothing change. No reply...

Figured. There's no way that Master would still watching over us. It have been five years since then.

"Dad... save us... " I'm starting to have a mental breakdown. I'm starting to lose hope of getting out of this situation by ourselves after witnessing the grown up's magic and capabilities. The difference in our abilities is too big.

The rest of the travel went by in a haze. Whether it's during the day when the carriage are travelling, or at night after putting Emi to sleep and those animals screwing around with the slaves, there's nothing to do. Meaning there's a lot of time for me to stare into the distance and imagine different ways they might kill us.

I hope they'll cut off our heads. At least it'll be quick.

Before I realize it, we have reached another town.
