Cassidys POV
I rushed downstairs and flung myself in the car. My hair blowing in the wind as it wings through the open window.
My heart was pounding nervously.
My phone started ringing as I pushed answer.
I chucked it on speaker then through it on the seat beside me
Cassidy: "Talk to me"
Colby: "Ok I got Crystals flight details from Sam. He said her flight leaves in about an hour. You miss that, she's gone. She will be at terminal 3. Get to her before the gates and you might be able to talk her out of it"
Cassidy: "ok. Tell Sam I said thanks. Also, would you have a shower. You smell like trash"
Colby: "Wowwww... thanks. I will"
Cassidy: "Alright I gotta go. Talk to you later"
Colby: "Don't miss her. Once she's through those gates, she gone"
I hung up and put my hand back on the steering wheel.
I was cutting it close. In less than an hour I had to drive an hour and a half.
Luckily a lot of the road to the airport was back road, so I could put my foot and the gas and floored it.
I hope I could make it in time. If Crystal got on that plane, that was it. I would never see her again.
I always remember the stories that Crystal would tell me when we were younger.
Her Dad was an alcoholic. He would get drunk and then hit her and her Mom.
When Crystal was 15, he finally moved away to London.
But he continued to message her and threaten her.
Saying things like he would kill her and her Mom.
After a couple of years, the messages stopped and he went under the radar. Couple months later they started up again, but they weren't threats.
He would tell her he was sorry, that he loved her. Tried to convince her to come and live with him.
Crystal was convinced for a while. She was even planning to run away with the money her dad was offering at the time.
Luckily her Mom found out and put a stop to it.
I guess he filled her head with lies again. And she was hurting, so his fake love probably sounded like a good idea.
I was worried about Crystal. She was the stable one out of the two of us. But she usually kept things to herself. That wasn't a healthy way to deal with problems.
I drove into the airport car park and quickly rushed out of my car.
I had 15 minutes before she would go through those gates.
I had no idea where terminal 3 was. It could be on the other side of the airport for all I know.
I pulled out my phone and desperately tried texting Crystal.
Crystal didn't answer. She didn't even leave me on seen.
I panicked.
I asked a nearby security officer where terminal three was. He pointed in a direction before I followed his advice and began running.
People around me gave me strange looks, but they weren't my concern.
Crystal was my concern.
My only concern.
****
A couple metres away I saw her.
Crystal
She was third in line from the gate.
I desperately ran, my legs pushing as hard as they could.
"Crystal!" I call out as she becomes first in the line.
She walks trough the gates and my heart sinks.
She's gone.
I was too late.
She begins walking away from the gate out to the plane.
Her familiar blue suitcase dragging behind her.
I arrive at the edge of the gate as I watch her walk further and further away.
"Crystal! Wait!" I call out through the gates gaps.
My breaths heavy and tired.
She turned her head to the side and stopped.
She eventually turned her head back and our eyes met instantly.
Her confused look turns into a smile and she begins shuffling back to me.
Her slow walk turns into a jog and eventually a sprint.
Crystals POV
I walk through the gates with my bag dragging behind.
My steps are heavy and nervous.
I hadn't seen my dad since I was 15 years old.
"Crystal! Wait!" I hear a familiar voice call out from behind me.
I turn my head in confusion and my eyes are instantly met with Cassidys. She's up against the gate reaching her hand out.
My heart drops at her sight. But suddenly everything felt normal. Like we were just kids in Kansas again.
Like the last couple of months didn't happen, or didn't matter.
I walk towards her, but it turns into a jog then a sprint. My legs take off as I feel myself wanting to dive so she could catch me.
Cassidys POV
She meets up with me and we wrap our arms around each other.
The sweet smell of her shampoo filled my heart with warmth. Suddenly the world around us melted away.
And the last couple of months were irrelevant. The hate I felt was buried away, and my forgiven friend was the only thing I saw.
