Shane sat on his couch, crumbs from chips sprayed across his lap. His hair messier then the day before. His face blank, red glazed over the image of a loud YouTubed yelling a storytime on the screen.
Shane ignored the sound of his doorbell ringing, shoving a handful of chips into his mouth, the crunching sound drowning out all sounds. When the sound ran again, the red head groaned and rolled off the couch. He internally sighed as he weight crashed into the wooden floors.
The doorbell rang again and Shane almost leapt up this time. It was annoying him.
The men whipped the door open to see Dan standing there. His body spiked with fear that was short lived, he relaxed when he saw Ryland, passed out in his arms.
" Ry?" Shane asked, his voice breaking.
" I don't have time, take" Dan ordered, holding out to boy to Shane.
Without hesitation the human took his boyfriend his arms. Making sure his head with resting on his collar bone so that Ryland's neck wouldn't spasm.
Dan was just turning to leave when Shane noticed small burn patches all over Ryland arms. New and would heal soon, but still there nonetheless.
" Dan wait! W-who did this to him?" Shane asked, hoping Ryland's didn't do it to himself.
Dan made eye contact with a man that he had a vastly different relationship in the past with. It only took a few seconds and emotion red to convey words that would take hours to communicate.
Shane nodded solemnly and gestured for Dan to go. He vampire speeded off much faster then any human could run. The red head turned and closed the door with his foot.
He looked down Ryland distressed sleeping face, he wondered if he'd have to work to repairing him as well as himself.
But one thing was for sure.
Jack was going to pay.
You can do whatever you want to me, but you never hurt the people I love!
Dan ran with a small boy in his arms. With blue bouncing hair and small hands that gripped his dark clothes with fear. The vampire ran at the speed of light through the trees and past small streams.
" How much further?!" Dan yelled over to the rushing wind.
Ethan leant into the vampires ear.
" Just last that huge bolder!".
Dan nodded and leapt over the rock. The vampire and human landed in a small clearing that held an old style house. It resembled Jack's cabin with vines crawling up the side. But it was a great deal larger.
Ethan was gently set down on the grass. His legs shaking from the high speed and adrenaline it gave him.
" Where's Tyler?" Dan asked.
" Downstairs" Ethan said.
It was quiet for a moment and neither of them moved.
" Why did you hurt Tyler?" Ethan asked.
Dan sighed, shoving his strangely scared hands into his pockets.
" I was angry, emotional. It felt right at the time. But now I see that there are worse things to be worried about. Much worse things to be angry about" Dan said, his eyes reflecting a recent memory.
Ethan clenched his jaw and nodded. The small boy lead his guest not to the front door of the house but rather two large trap doors on the side of the house. They looked freshly installed, with clean concrete to fix them in place.
Ethan threw open the door and lead Dan down the few stairs that lead into the damp and dark basement. The vampire could see the dimly lit room but could see it even more clearly as Ethan switched the light on.
