'I really hate summer.' I complain to Jasmine and Calli as we sit outside eating lunch.

'Why?' Jas asked moving into the sunlight.

'It's too hot, like last night I couldn't sleep because of the heat. At least in the winter you can warm up, you can't cool down in the summer.' I groan laying back against the grass.

'Nic come on enjoy the sun while it's here, we live in England for crying out loud there's hardly any sun.' Calli laughed but I disagreed.

'We get sun for like three months and I will not enjoy it because I always burn.'

Perks of being a ginger I guess.

'You know most teenagers wouldn't complain about the sun, come on Nic it's summer enjoy it.' Jasmine said playfully punching my arm, I flipped her off before laying back down.

My phone rings from beside me and when I see my mum's name flash across the screen I rolled my eyes and prepared myself.

'Hi mum.' I squeaked though the phone.

'Nicolette, are you free tonight?' She asked in her business voice.

'I am now.' I heard her sigh and I could just imagine her rolling her eyes and picking at her nail polish.

'Nicolette I asked you a question and I would like a proper answer please, I'll ask you again; are you free tonight?'

I know that I have to be free otherwise she'll feed me some bullshit about how much she does for me and how I can't even free up one night for her.

'Yeah I haven't planned anything.' I lied, I had originally planned to spend my night with the boys so Peter could show them how good I was on the PS3.

'Fantastic, me and your father are coming down to see you and we'll be going to dinner.' She informed me, there she goes again dictating my life.

'That sounds great.' I said sarcastically but she didn't pick up on it.

'Bring Logan along with you we haven't seen him in ages.' I could basically hear her smile as she spoke about Logan, she loves that boy probably more than I do.

She kepts telling me that he's the best thing for me and that I should be lucky that a boy like that even looked my way.

I suppose that's why I didn't tell her that as soon as I went to uni he dumped me, she would be so heartbroken.

'Logan's busy tonight mother, he's hanging out with the boys.'

Which I was invited to join but now that's out of the window.

'Oh don't be silly Nicolette, just tell him your parents are in town and I'm sure he'll cancel his plans. You know how much he adores us.'

'Mother please, he hasn't had a boy's night in about three weeks.'

'You are the woman in the relationship Nicolette and so you tell him that he is not having a boy's night tonight, tell him to change the day. Don't let a man tell you what he's doing.' With her attitude towards men it's a wonder how she actually got a husband and kept him.

'But mother...'

'No Nicolette, we'll see you and Logan at seven o'clock we'll pick you both up from your dorm.'

Then the line went dead.

Fuck

I tossed my phone onto the grass next to me and screamed into my knees. 'Nic?' Calli said cautiously.
